Year 10
In Year 10 this week, the girls started their History oral assessment on Changing Rights and Freedoms. As a Year 10 History teacher, I get to see these speeches firsthand, and I am always amazed by the level of support given to each student by their classmates as they get up to speak. There are cheers of – ‘… you got this, you can do it!’ and big applause at the end of each speech, which creates such an inspiring and supportive learning environment through a shared experience. The PDHPE task continues with the group hip hop assessment and another group task in Drama. Learning to collaborate with others to produce a product teaches many life skills – negotiation, accountability, learning to be assertive, and building confidence. Checking in with your daughter is very helpful for them to know that you are interested in their learning and you can support them to develop those soft skills – for example, proposing some ideas to help them problem solve issues and support them to ask their teacher for help if they need more support.
In our year meeting this week, the SRC team created a fun trivia quiz with Wade winning convincingly. The team ran the event so well and it was great to see them working together and learning to present to such a big audience. The aim of our year meeting was to celebrate Year 10’s many achievements in co-curricular sport and music and this will be regular feature as we gather together.
A reminder about winter uniform from our Studies Office. Please make sure that your daughter’s blazer is labelled with both names and year group. This makes it easier for us to identify expensive lost items for you, should your daughter misplace it.
Please remind your daughter about organising work experience, which occurs in Term 4. If you are having issues finding a placement, please reach out to our Careers faculty for advice Jo Cilia on jcilia@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au and Nicole Massara on nmassara@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au Further information is available in this newsletter and on the Omnia Parent Portal.
If you have an academic concern, please contact your daughter’s class teacher via email to arrange a discussion. If you have a pastoral or wellbeing concern, please contact me on sconnolly1@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au or on 02 8741 9736. I am available Monday to Friday by phone, on Teams or for an on site meeting.
