From the Acting Head of Senior School

It has been another purposeful week across the Senior School. Year 12 students have continued their Trial Examinations, approaching this important period with focus and perseverance. We also saw the next generation of student leaders step forward through the 2027 Student Leadership Interviews, and as ever it has been brilliant to hear our students reflect on their values and aspirations.

Everyday Counts

As we approach the midpoint of the term, there is much to look forward to. I would like to take this opportunity to remind families that regular attendance and punctuality are important parts of creating routine, building confidence, and supporting academic success. Research consistently shows that attendance is closely linked to student achievement, engagement, and wellbeing. In NSW, students who demonstrated positive attendance habits in Year 7 were, on average, around three months ahead in their learning by Year 9 compared with students with poorer attendance patterns. Even occasional absences can add up: missing just one day each fortnight equates to around four weeks of lost learning in a year, and close to a full year across a student’s schooling. Unless students are unwell, being at school every day helps them stay connected to their learning, their peers, and the wider school community.

It wasn’t just the students who were fangirling the Chelsea F.C. football players on Tuesday at the open training that they were lucky enough to attend; a number of staff were also starry eyed at being up close to international football superstars Lauren James, Ellie Carpenter and the rest of the Chelsea squad. Our students were fortunate that our Director of Sport, Scott Carpenter, pulled a few strings so that they benefited from watching the session and talking to the players. Chatting to students the next day, it was clear how inspired they were by the experience. Opportunities like this can have a lasting impact, helping students see what is possible through dedication, teamwork and ambition, and inspiring future generations to dream boldly and pursue their own goals with confidence. Thank you, Scott, for making this happen!
