Year 6 Showcase

On Tuesday night, Year 6 students proudly presented their Sydney Science Park Showcase, sharing the culmination of an engaging term of inquiry, design, and problem solving.

 

During Collaborative Learning Project (CLP) this term, students explored the concepts of matter, innovation, liveability and sustainability through the real world context of Sydney Science Park. They investigated the properties of matter and considered how scientific knowledge can be applied to solve challenges within communities. Sydney Science Park provided an authentic example of an innovative environment, prompting students to examine how thoughtful design can create places that are both liveable and sustainable.

 

Working collaboratively in teams, students took on the roles of scientists, town planners, architects, engineers, and innovators. They identified authentic community challenges and developed solutions designed to improve wellbeing, accessibility, sustainability, and quality of life. Their projects focused on key areas including health, urban agriculture, heat and the circular economy, while also encouraging students to consider how solutions can care for Country and draw upon local Aboriginal knowledge and connection to Country.

 

The Showcase gave them the opportunity to communicate their thinking, explain their designs and demonstrate how their learning could contribute to communities of the future.

 

The evening was a wonderful celebration of the students’ collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving. Most importantly, it highlighted their ability to connect classroom learning with authentic challenges and imagine innovative, sustainable solutions for a more liveable future.
