From the Head of Junior School

This week we farewelled the graduating Year 12 Class of 2026. Our very excited Kindergarten girls sang ‘So Long, Farewell’ to our Year 12 graduates at their Final Assembly. Another touching moment occurred when the senior girls who have attended MLC School since Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten visited the Junior School to play games with the girls. In turn, the Year 12 ‘Lifers’ received farewell cards from our youngest students, who had created portraits of the ‘big girls’! We wish our Year 12 students the very best as they prepare for their final exams. 

Kindergarten and Year 1 Adventure Camp

Kindergarten experienced their first Outdoor Adventure Camp at Queen’s Park in Concord, while Year 1 explored the great outdoors at Lane Cove National Park. Both the girls and their teachers looked a little tired by the end of camp – a sure sign of an adventurous day!

Year 3 Adventure Camp – Parent Information Webinar

An information session for parents will be held online on Wednesday 14 October 2026 at 6pm. The link to join will be sent to Year 3 parents and carers at 9am on the morning of the webinar.

Year 6 Showcase

Tuesday evening was a significant and successful occasion for Year 6 as the girls hosted their annual Showcase. The evening provided each girl with the opportunity to display her skills in her chosen area of research and share her achievements across other subjects. The students selected an environmental area to research, inspired by the new Sydney Science Park being built adjacent to the newly opened Western Sydney Airport. Year 6 students have been working with industry partners as part of this exciting and unique project.

It was wonderful to see our Year 6 parents engaging with the girls and interviewing them about their areas of study. Visitors who also work with other Sydney Science Park partner schools noted that the standard of our Year 6 students’ work exceeded that of secondary students from other schools. This partnership reminds us of the importance of an all-girls education, providing opportunities for our young women to thrive in STEM domains that boys can often dominate in co-educational environments. Outstanding STEM Award for Year 6

A team of Year 6 students participated in a VEX IQ competition this week and were proudly awarded one of the most prestigious awards of the day, The Design Award! A special mention too for the Senior School team who won the Excellence Award.

The Design Award is given in recognition of a team that has a strong engineering notebook that clearly displays the team’s enginerring design process throughout the season, evidence of student understanding, teamwork, and attitude. Stay & Play

As our newsletter reaches your inbox, Kindergarten to Year 5 will be participating in Stay & Play, an event held each year on the last day of Term 3. Our Junior School Student Council (JSSC) hosts a fun afternoon of activities and sells items to raise money for the JSSC to purchase items for the School. Thank you also to our Year 5 parents, who provided the cake stall and supported the running of the stalls.

I will write to you again prior to the commencement of the final school term. I look forward to seeing all the girls return in full summer uniform on Tuesday 13 October 2026, ready for a fulfilling Term 4.

Year 2 Shoebox Museum

On Monday, Year 2 welcomed parents and families to our Shoebox Museum, where students stepped into the role of museum curators to showcase their learning about a significant woman from history. Students researched inspiring women such as Marie Curie, Jane Goodall and Ada Lovelace, investigating their achievements, the challenges they faced, and the impact they had on the world.

As part of the project, each student created a detailed diorama depicting an important scene from the life of their chosen woman, complete with relevant artefacts and displays. During the museum experience, students confidently shared their research findings with visitors and responded thoughtfully to follow-up questions about their subject.

The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about these remarkable women, whose perseverance, courage and determination closely reflect our school motto, ‘Dare to Be More.’ We were incredibly proud of the knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm they demonstrated throughout the project.

Year 5 Service Leadership Portfolio Project

Throughout Term 2 and Term 3, students in the Junior School Year 5 Service Leadership Portfolio spent their lunch breaks working together to create hand-loomed scarves for people experiencing homelessness. This meaningful project provided students with an opportunity to put their values of compassion and service into action.

On Thursday 17 September, we were delighted to welcome Pastor Luisa to the Junior School to accept the scarves on behalf of the community she supports through her volunteer work in Martin Place. Pastor Luisa shared how much the scarves will be appreciated, particularly as the evenings remain cold, and spoke about the comfort they will bring to those in need.

A heartfelt thank you to the families who donated wool and looms to support this project. Your kindness helped our students make a difference in the lives of others and demonstrated the importance of our community working together in service of others.

CBCA Collide Book Trailer Competition

Last term the Year 5 students created book trailers for the 2026 CBCA Notable books. They were submitted to the CBCA Collide Competition in the Year 5/6 category. There were two teams that were shortlisted:

This term the winners were announced and we are very proud of Colette and Marina who won their category. They were awarded their certificates, medals and prize at our Celebration assembly on Thursday. Well done girls!

From the Head of Senior School

As we come to the end of Term 3, it is worth pausing to acknowledge just how much has taken place across the Senior School in the past few weeks. The end of term always seems to arrive quickly, but when we look back over Week 6 to Week 9, there is much to celebrate.

In Week 6, we welcomed visitors from Ballantine Memorial School in Fiji. This was an opportunity for our students to connect with another school community and to show the hospitality that is such an important part of MLC School. There was a lovely connection for the Fijian girls with Rev Viniani Raviteli who toured them around the School. The MLC School girls got such a pleasant surprise when the Ballantine girls sang to them and presented gifts as they left each class. That same week, our debaters represented the School at the Archdale Debating Grand Final, where MLC School was named Champion IGSA School for the fourth year in a row. This is an outstanding achievement and one that reflects the strength of our Debating program, the commitment of our students and the guidance of the staff involved.

Week 7 brought Experience Day, where we welcomed future students and families to the School. Our students were excellent ambassadors, helping others feel welcome and giving them a glimpse of what senior school will bring. The Dance Showcase also took place that weekend and was a wonderful celebration of the work, discipline, and creativity of our dancers. It is hard to believe that many of those same dancers and staff will be on a plane to Europe today!

In Week 8 and Week 9, our Year 8 students took part in the Round Square Regional Exchange, with students visiting from Radford College in Canberra, Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston and Wilderness School in Adelaide. These exchanges have been fantastic for the students. Our students are looking forward to heading off on the reciprocal exchange next term. If your daughter is interested in Round Square Exchange, look out for notices for 2027 from Henry Wijanto, Round Square Coordinator.

Our Year 6 to Year 12 House Athletics Carnival was another highlight of the term. It was a day filled with colour, House Spirit and amazing costumes! I thank the students and staff who contributed to making it such a positive event. It is also fantastic to note that we had the highest attendance at a carnival ever! We also announced our 2027 Captains, which is always an exciting moment in the life of the School. I congratulate the students who have been appointed and look forward to seeing the contribution they will make next year.

The Year 11 Drama Production gave our students the opportunity to share their work with an audience – congratulations to Kellie Cogin, Drama Teacher and Lisa Jinga, Head of Department – Dance, Drama and Entertainment (DDE) – and our Cadets took part in their Promotion Camp at Holsworthy Army Barracks. We congratulate the students involved.

Week 9 has, of course, been very much about Year 12. Through Celebration Assembly, OGU Chocolate Recess, the recognition of our Year 12 Lifers, Final Assembly, Valedictory Assembly and Valedictory Dinner, we have had the chance to farewell the Class of 2026 and thank them for all they have contributed to MLC School. The dance floor was jumping at Montage last night!

As the term ends, we also wish safe travels to the students and staff taking part in the DDE Tour to London and Paris, the WOW Design Tour to New Zealand and the History Tour to Germany and Italy. I know these will be memorable experiences and we look forward to hearing about them next term.

Thank you to our students, staff and families for all that you have contributed throughout Term 3. I hope the holiday break provides some time to rest, recover and enjoy a slower pace before we return for Term 4.

Farewell and Thank You to Ayaka Sensei

This week, we farewell Ayaka Maehata Sensei, who has been an intern with us for the past four weeks. Students studying Japanese from Year 6 to Year 12 have enjoyed having her assist in their classes. Ayaka sensei is from Kagoshima, Japan, and is currently studying American and British literature at Prefectural University of Kumamoto. She hopes to become an English teacher in Japan in the future. Ayaka sensei shares her reflection below.

‘I have really loved my time at MLC School. The students are very lovely and have been so welcoming. I have particularly enjoyed sharing Japanese culture such as origami, kendama, tea ceremony, singing songs and drawing anime. I am surprised that the students can speak Japanese so well.

MLC School students are so friendly and have been so keen to speak Japanese with me even outside of the classroom. Thank you for having me at MLC School. I hope many students will try their hardest to continue studying Japanese and visit Japan in the future!’

Year 7

It is hard to believe we have already reached the end of Term 3. Well done to all our Year 7 girls for their energy, enthusiasm and commitment throughout the term. This week, the girls led the final Big Sister Little Sister session with their Year 11 sisters. It was lovely to see the thoughtful activities they planned, and especially pleasing to see the Year 7 students take the lead in organising and guiding the session.

This week, we also farewelled our Year 12 girls and sent them off with joy, a few tears and plenty of applause.

Congratulations to all the girls who received Mathematics awards. This achievement reflects their commitment to learning and their willingness to strive for excellence across many aspects of school life.

As the term comes to a close, I wish all our girls, families and carers a restful and enjoyable holiday break. I hope the girls have time to relax, spend quality time with family and friends, and enjoy the activities they love. I also encourage them to find opportunities to step away from digital devices and enjoy simple, face-to-face moments with others. Whether it is watching movies with friends, playing a ball game outside, skating, playing cards, sharing a pizza or enjoying a game of hide and seek, these experiences can help build connection, confidence and social skills. Sometimes, the saying ‘an oldie but a goodie’ really does hold true.

A gentle reminder that Term 4 will begin for students on Tuesday 13 October 2026. Year 7 students are required to wear their Summer uniform from the start of the term.

Year 8

Congratulations on finishing Term 3! It was such a big term, with lots to celebrate. The Year 8 students were involved in NAIDOC Week, Year 8 Immersion trip, Bullying No Way Week, Book Week, STEM Week and the House Athletics Carnival just to mention a few!

Year 9

As we come to the end of term, it is wonderful to reflect on what has been a busy and rewarding few weeks. We have celebrated NAIDOC Week, Book Week, STEM Week and the House Athletics Carnival, while students have also taken part in the PASS ski trip, performed in the Showcase Concert, competed in Archdale debating, attended a range of excursions and contributed to many other events across the School. These experiences have provided many opportunities for students to connect, participate and contribute positively to the wider life of the School.

This week we celebrated a whole School communion and heard the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders. The story reminds us of the person who built their house on solid rock, creating a foundation strong enough to withstand the storm. This message is particularly relevant for Year 9 as they continue to develop the habits, skills and character that will support them as learners. With a few assessments still to come next term, I encourage students to focus on steady improvement and continued growth, rather than measuring success only by marks.

We also joined in celebrating and farewelling the Year 12 2026 cohort. I hope Year 9 students have taken many positive messages from this group, who have led with gratitude, respect and generosity. They have been wonderful role models for the younger years and have shown the positive impact that kindness, commitment and School Spirit can have on a community. The photo from this week is Year 9 ready for the Guard of Honour after the Year 12 final Valedictory assembly.

I hope everyone enjoys a restful and well deserved break after such a busy term. I look forward to welcoming students back for the start of Term 4 on Tuesday 13 October 2026.

Year 10

Celebrating Year 12

Year 10 has enjoyed a memorable week and joined the Festival of Year 12 to celebrate our senior students. Sabine Rezainia represented younger siblings in the candle-lighting ceremony. Across the Valedictory Service, Final Assembly, final countdown and guard of honour, Year 10 students conducted themselves with respect, enthusiasm and genuine support for their older schoolmates. We are very proud of the way they embraced these valued MLC School traditions.

Cadet Leadership and Service

Following last weekend’s cadet camp, many Year 10 students completed promotion courses and continued to build their leadership skills. Our Year 10 cadets serve as medics, signallers, officers and leaders, supporting younger students on bivouac and assisting the senior cadet leadership team. We also commend Sabine Rezainia, Dinuli Fernando, Natalia Gardiner, Veronica Pan, Chloe Oh, Mia Waterhouse, Mara Nichols, Ruby Baker, Megan Kuit and Tilly Shipard, who volunteered to sell Legacy badges at Burwood and Strathfield stations. Together, they raised more than $1,200 to support veterans’ families.

Year 10 Immersion

This four-week immersive experience is designed to support students as they reflect on their identity, consider future pathways, and develop practical life skills. Through journaling, career exploration and hands-on activities, students will build a deeper understanding of themselves, their strengths and their aspirations. The program will conclude with students presenting their final projects and future plans to a panel of staff. Holiday Tours

During the holiday break, several groups will depart on exciting learning experiences: the Dance, Drama and Entertainment (DDE) tour to London and Paris, the History tour to Germany and Italy, and the WOW Design tour to New Zealand. We wish all students and staff safe travels and rewarding experiences.

The spring holidays are an important opportunity for students to rest, reconnect with family and friends, and prepare steadily for the examination block in Week 2 of Term 4. Families wishing to access Study Hub+ for Year 10 can find information at Study Hub+. Sessions are held on Level 3 of the Senior Centre, Monday to Thursday from 3.30pm to 6m. Subject clinics for Mathematics, English, Science, HSIE and PDHPE will run during Week 1; students should contact their teachers for details and support.

Year 11

It is hard to believe we have reached the end of Term 3. Year 11 have had an excellent term, and I have really enjoyed watching students continue to grow into their roles as leaders of the Senior School. It has been wonderful to see them strengthen their relationships with one another and with younger students, while also settling confidently into their senior studies.

We ended the term by celebrating the following students on the achievement of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Congratulations to:

Orianna Ellis, Gigi Guan, Sanaya Nair, Niamh Johnson, Lottie Cleland, Chelsea Chen, Joanne Chen, Sophia Hu, Yerina Kang, Jodhi Bou, Gurnaaz Kahlon and Lindsay Zeng.

Completing the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award while balancing the academic and co-curricular demands of Year 11 is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all these students, they should be very proud of their dedication and perseverance.

We also have a number of students representing MLC School on Technological and Applied Studies (TAS), History, and Dance, Drama and Entertainment (DDE) tours around the world during the holidays. We wish them safe travels and a wonderful experience. I look forward to hearing their stories and highlights when they return.

A gentle reminder for parents and carers to support their daughters in returning next term in the correct Summer uniform and meeting MLC School’s expectations regarding hair, nails, eyelashes and jewellery in line with the School Uniform Code. Your support in this area is greatly appreciated.

I would like to wish all Year 11 students and their families a restful and enjoyable holiday. I encourage students to take the opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well earned downtime before we begin Year 12 coursework in Term 4.

From the Principal

Thank you and farewell Year 12

This week has been a wonderful celebration of the Class of 2026. Across the week, our School community shared its best wishes with the graduating class through events including the Old Girls Union Chocolate Recess, House Lunches, final Chapel Service, final Devotional Service, Final Assembly, Valedictory Assembly and last night’s Valedictory Dinner.

Our 2026 School Captains, so ably led by Anisha Sivagurunathan, Sophie Winnall and Crystal Huang, have led with passion, commitment, and joy. I have been inspired by the leadership shown by the whole team and delighted that they have put their own touch on their various roles while being respectful of the School’s traditions and expectations.

In recent days, our graduating students have spoken and written so eloquently about their time at MLC School, the things they have learned and their deep appreciation for the people they have met along the way. From their graduate reflections, speeches, notes, and words of thanks, it is evident that their time here has, while not without its ups and down, made them who they are today and consequently, they are ready for life beyond school.

Many families chose to mark their daughter’s time at MLC School with a commemorative paver, these are located at the main entrance to the School. As the newest additions were progressively laid, many of our current students visited daily to see whose name had been added since yesterday. They chattered excitedly about their relationship with those named on the pavers, took photos and discussed how long it will be until they too will have their names added. The pavers are also regularly visited and viewed by past and prospective families and often prompt stories and memory sharing from our Old Girls and their families. Next time you visit, I encourage you to take a closer look and reflect on your family’s part in the rich history of our School.

We wish our graduating class all the very best for the future and know that their time at MLC School has equipped them with knowledge, skills, friendships, and experiences that will enable them to navigate whatever lies ahead. We thank them for the positive difference that they have made to school spirit and cohesion.

I extend my best wishes to all students and families for the coming term break and remind our Year 12 students that the School will be open for study camp so that you can utilise staff expertise and take the time to complete papers under examination conditions or study with friends. ‘She Can’ – STEM

She Can lead. She Can challenge. She Can inspire. She Can change the world.

In the second instalment of our ‘She Can’ campaign, we celebrate the curiosity, creativity and confidence our girls bring to STEM. Through hands-on learning and meaningful challenges, they are encouraged to test ideas, solve problems and see themselves as the scientists, engineers, mathematicians and innovators of the future.

OnStage Nominations – Drama

Congratulations to our HSC Drama cohort, who have achieved a record-breaking 19 nominations for possible inclusion in OnStage. OnStage celebrates the very best HSC Drama works from across NSW, and to receive a nomination is a significant achievement. It means markers recognised the quality, originality and excellence of the work our students presented.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is the integrity of the work itself. The performances were challenging, thoughtful and deeply committed. Together, they offer a true representation of the depth of skill, courage and creativity within our Drama cohort. MLC School has long been known for its outstanding performing arts programs, and this extraordinary result is another reminder of just how strong, vibrant and ambitious our Drama program continues to be.

All 10 students who completed an Individual performance were nominated and two group performances were nominated. This is an impressive feat for our performers! Hand in projects are yet to be marked, so we await with hope for further news in November for our project students.

Agents of Change

How do you change the world and make it better?  This is a question Leila Najdi (Year 5) addressed when she wrote a speech for the ‘Raise Our Voice’ competition held in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney. As the successful winner of the competition, her speech was read out in Federal Parliament by her local Federal member Simon Kennedy.

Year 5 was especially proud of Leila as her speech advocated for vision impaired people.  Having students at our school with visual access challenges was a strong motivation for her.

Year 7 to Year 11 2028 Scholarships close on 30 September

MLC School opens applications around 18 months before the intended year of entry for those looking at Year 7 to Year 11 scholarships.

Scholarship registrations for Year 7 to Year 11 in 2028 are open to all current MLC School students.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the School for an activity morning. Please note that not all shortlisted candidates will be offered a scholarship.

Titled She Makes a Difference | Celebrating 140 Years of ‘Walking in the Light’, the concert celebrated 140 years of excellence in girls’ education and the depth and spirit of MLC School’s musical tradition.

Choirs, orchestras, bands, soloists and MLC School Old Girl musicians shared the stage in a tribute to the women who have shaped our past and continue to inspire our future.

Sony Foundation Camp – Seeking Nursing and Medical Support

We ask that you please share this opportunity with any allied health, nurses or medical professionals that you know.

MLC School warmly invites nurses and medical professionals to volunteer expertise as part of 24-hour onsite medical staff for the 2026 MLC School Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp.

The four-day, three-night respite camp, hosted by Year 11 students and staff of MLC School will run from Wednesday 9 December to Saturday 12 December 2026 at Land’s Edge Foundation Harbour Lodge, 1 Chowder Bay Road, Mosman.

Children with additional needs who are attending the camp will be treated to a range of fun-filled activities from time at the beach to discos, magic shows, drumming workshops, craft and so much more!

Study Hub+

Study Hub Form – Term 4

Study Hub+ is MLC School’s structured, pay‑per‑use after‑school study support program, designed for students in Year 7 to Year 12 who would benefit from more personalised academic guidance in a focused and supportive environment.

While the Study Hub provides a supervised space for independent study for Year 11 and Year 12, Study Hub+ offers a higher level of individualised, responsive support. Sessions are student‑led, allowing mentors to tailor assistance based on each student’s specific needs on the day. This may include consolidating class learning, clarifying assessment requirements, preparing for examinations, or developing effective and sustainable study routines.

Led by Program Coordinator Ela Huber, Study Hub+ is supported by a team of knowledgeable mentors, all of whom are pre‑service teachers or working towards a career in education. Most mentors are in the final stages of their undergraduate or Master of Teaching degrees and bring with them a strong depth of subject knowledge, alongside up‑to‑date, innovative and curriculum‑aligned resources. This ensures students receive guidance that is relevant and closely aligned with classroom expectations.

A key strength of Study Hub+ is the opportunity for students to work alongside a mentor, particularly when engaging with written tasks. Mentors can read through work with students, ask guiding questions, suggest improvements to structure, clarity and expression, and help students refine their ideas and arguments. While mentors are unable to mark work or provide grades, they can offer valuable feedback and editing support prior to submission, helping students better understand how to improve their work independently.

Mentors can support students with:

• Revising and consolidating key concepts and class content
• Examination preparation and revision strategies
• Planning and organising assessments and study schedules
• Reading through drafts alongside students and suggesting edits or refinements
• Developing confidence, independence and effective study habits

Study Hub+ also plays an important role in supporting students in an era where AI is a valuable and encouraged tool at MLC School, but one that requires thoughtful, ethical and informed use. Students can sometimes over‑rely on AI when completing homework and assessments, which may leave them unsure about underlying concepts, task expectations or how to improve their own work.

At Study Hub+, mentors help reinforce the appropriate and ethical use of AI by guiding students to use these tools as a support for learning rather than a replacement for thinking. Mentors work with students to unpack questions, clarify concepts, check understanding and refine ideas, ensuring students remain actively engaged in their learning and confident in the work they submit.

Program Overview

• Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 3.30pm–6pm (term time)
• Location: Level 1, Senior Centre
• Cost: $25 per session (2.5 hours) and charged to your daughter’s account at the end of term
• Environment: Phone‑free zone to minimise distractions and promote positive study habits
• Staffing: A minimum of two mentors per session, rotating to provide a range of subject expertise

Families are encouraged to register on a termly basis to support the development of consistent study routines, although weekly bookings remain available via Omnia and Audacia, the School e-newsletter. Students will receive a reminder email at approximately 2pm on their scheduled day confirming their session and assigned room.

Cancellation Policy

If your daughter is unable to attend a scheduled session, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged. In cases of illness where your daughter is absent from school, families will not be charged.

These operate 3.30pm–6pm Monday to Thursday during term time.

Year 11 and Year 12 After-Hours Study Hub

Recognising the importance of a conducive environment for focused study, MLC School has established a free after-hours Study Hub exclusively for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. Located on Level 3 of the Senior Centre, the Study Hub provides a quiet and supportive space where students can concentrate on their studies, complete assessments, and prepare for examinations under the supervision of experienced MLC School staff across many subject areas.

Key Features:

• Experienced staff: Two teachers rostered each evening from different subject areas, to guide and assist students with their academic queries and provide valuable feedback.
• Convenient location: Level 3 of the Senior Centre, providing easy access for Senior students.
• Flexible hours: The study hub is open Monday to Thursday 3.30pm–6pm, allowing students to make the best use of their time outside regular school hours. Partial attendance is welcome.

We encourage all Year 11 and Year 12 students to take advantage of this excellent resource to enhance their learning experience and achieve their academic goals. The staff roster will be published in advance of each week in Audacia, the School newsletter. Students will be required to sign in on arrival to Study Hub and sign out on departure, as part of our student welfare management system.

There is no need to register for this program.

As we come to the end of Term 3 Championship Season of many sports, MLC School looks forward to seeing our School represented with pride at our Grand Finals weekend this coming Saturday 19 September.

Congratulations to all our teams on a fantastic effort during the Semi Finals, last weekend. It was wonderful to see the determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed across all games, along with our newest addition of our MLC School Sport Finals Tattoos. All our teams looked fantastic!

A special congratulations to our Netball, Basketball and Football teams who have progressed, and well done to everyone who represented the School with pride. As we head into the final weekend of competition, we wish all players and coaches the very best of luck. We are excited to see another great weekend of sport and already looking forward to an action-packed Term 4 sporting season.

Nominations are now open for students in Year 5 to attend the IPSHA Girls Cricket Trials, at The Kings School, Tuesday 20 October 2026, 9.30am–2.30pm.

Students wishing to nominate must be playing metropolitan representative-level cricket and meet the advertised age eligibility requirements. MLC School Sports Staff will notify parents if the student has been selected to trial.

Looking for an action-packed way to keep active during these school holidays? Our 5-Day MLC School Holiday Sports Camp is back from Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2026!

Each morning, you will hit the courts for tennis, developing your skills through fun games, activities, and coaching. In the afternoons, the fun continues with different sports each day, giving you the chance to try something new, stay active and compete with your friends.

With a mix of tennis, team sports, games and plenty of fun, it’s the perfect way for you to get active, learn new skills, and make the most of your school holidays. We will also be having a BBQ on Friday, so make sure you don’t miss out on that!

We capped off a busy term at MLC School Gymnastics in style with many of our L5+ Artistic Gymnasts (along with six of our coaches!) and all our Rhythmic Multiples groups competing at the State Clubs Championships over three intense days of competition last weekend. This is one of the few events where the whole team is at the same event, allowing our athletes to feel the true MLC School Gymnastics support and culture which was displayed across all sessions.

Netball

What an exciting weekend of Netball across the IGSA and ERNA Semi Final Competitions!

We had successful games all round:

• MLC03, our Senior thirds, took out the win and into the grand finals! With a 30-21 victory against STS03, the girls are looking strong!
• MLC04, our Senior fourth team, also will be in the grand finals! Winning 17-14 against PLS10.
• Our ERNA MLC03 Junior School Team is also making a strong appearance at Grand Finals this weekend, with a close Semi Final, the Year 5 Team are looking ahead to a huge game this week!
• MLC07 and MLC08 came home with strong come backs, however just missed out on making the grand finals, however we are all so proud of the girls making it this far!

Hockey

What an exciting term it has been for MLC School Hockey! It introduced one of our largest ever programs, with our first team at the highest level in IGSA.

It was so exciting to see so many new faces to the sport, picking up new skills, meeting new faces in new teams and producing some excellent results!

A hope you will all join me in saying a warm goodbye and good luck to the Y12 players who represented us over the last two terms. Your contributions have been invaluable, and you have paved the way for a strong Hockey Program at MLC School going forwards. We hope to hear more about your hockey endeavours as you go forward in your sporting careers.

Huge shoutouts to MLC01 and MLC04, who both made it through to the S01 and J03 Semi Finals respectively. Both games went down to the wire into extra time – sadly we didn’t end up in a Grand Final this term, but every player who repped the blue and gold hockey uniform this year has done it proud.  

I look forward to what next year will bring, premierships are calling!

MLC04 Football – IGSA Finals Bound!

What a fantastic achievement for our MLC04 Football team, who have earned their place in the IGSA Finals! Congratulations, girls!

To celebrate Grand Final week, members of MLC02 had a very special training session this morning, with the opportunity to wear a piece of football history.

The girls got to choose from a collection of Ellie Carpenter match-worn jerseys that have travelled the world with her. From Paris 2024 and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, to the Tokyo Olympics, Asian Cup, UEFA Women’s Champions League with Olympique Lyonnais, and more recently, her Chelsea FC Women jerseys.

It was a pretty special way to get the girls into Grand Final fever and connect them with the incredible journey of an inspiring young Footballer.

A huge thank you to Coach Steve and all the MLC02 girls for your commitment throughout the term.

VEX IQ Robotics Competition

On Wednesday 16 September, MLC School students from our VEX Robotics STEM co-curricular travelled to Shore School, North Sydney to compete in our next competition of the season.  The students conducted themselves admirably, even assisting teams from other schools and helping them improve their robots and game strategy.

We are proud to say that our two teams were awarded the top two Judges’ Awards: the Excellence Award and the Design Award!  This is a fantastic recognition of their efforts and growth throughout the season, particularly as most of our students are participating in their first season of VEX. 

The Excellence Award is giving in recognition of a team being considered the best all round in the competition, including points scored, quality of their engineering notebook, evidence of student understanding, teamwork, and attitude.

MLCSACU Promotions

Last weekend, MLCSACU cadets completed a rewarding Promotion Camp at Holsworthy Army Barracks, bringing together the CUO and SGT promotion courses. Across the weekend, cadets were challenged to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, communication, fieldcraft and personal organisation.

The Sergeant course included navigation, checkpoint rotations, drill, inspections, field routines and a night move, while the CUO course focused on planning, activity delivery, interviews and decision-making. Throughout the camp, cadets stepped into leadership roles with purpose and maturity. They gave orders, managed syndicates, solved problems, maintained accountability and supported one another through each activity.

Cadets also benefited from valuable learning experiences across the barracks. CUO candidates were spoken to by members of 2 Commandos, while SGT candidates spent time with the Lancers, gaining insight into Army service, leadership and military history.

For the Sergeants, the night move was a memorable challenge: perhaps a disturbance to sleep at the time, but a highlight in hindsight.

The weekend concluded with visits to the Weapon Training Simulation System, the Engineering Museum and the chapel, where cadets learnt more about the role of the Padre and the support provided through reflection, pastoral care and connection.

Promotion Camp is about more than earning a new rank. It develops confidence, judgement, responsibility and the ability to lead others with care. Our cadets should be proud of the effort they displayed across the weekend and throughout their courses.

A huge thank you goes to the staff who have supported and led these courses throughout the year and over the weekend. Their guidance, time and commitment ensured our cadets were well prepared, well challenged and well supported throughout the promotion process.

IPSHA Debating Season Ends with Gala Day

Our 20 primary debating students have completed two terms of dedicated training and competition, taking part in all seven rounds of the IPSHA debating competition.

Our two Year 5 teams began the season with great enthusiasm as they learned the skills and strategies of effective debating. They have made excellent progress and, hopefully, feel ready to continue developing their skills next year as Year 6 students. Congratulations to:

All this hard work culminated in a debating gala day at PLC last Thursday. Each team had to prepare cases for two debates within a short period. Their ability to take on this challenge calmly demonstrated how much they have progressed throughout the year.

Thank you to our coaches, teachers and parents, who all contributed to the success of our teams. This was our final year competing in the IPSHA debating competition. Next year, we hope to participate in different primary debating activities for Year 5 and Year 6, helping students develop their debating skills and confidence.

ASCA Speech and Drama Examination Superstars and Term 3 Wrap Up

Congratulations to our Junior Speech and Drama students who participated in their ASCA (Australian Speech Communication Association) examinations over the last 2 weeks.

The ASCA Examiners, Dr Paul March and Therese Bennetts were so impressed by the high standard and variety of performances including group devised and published scenes, monologues, duologues, prepared speeches, sight reading, demonstrations, poetry, prose, choral speaking, mime, storytelling, readers theatre and improvisation.

We are so proud of all our students for the hard work and dedication they put into their exam preparation. It was wonderful to see everyone having fun and enjoying the examination experience.

Our Senior students have been busy preparing for their ASCA and Trinity examination which will be held in Term 4.

The Speech and Drama Studio has had a wonderful and busy Term 3. We are so proud of all of our students across all programs.

Wishing everyone a great holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone in Week 1 of Term 4.
