Senior Wakakirri Team Earn State Recognition and National Nomination

Following an outstanding Term 3 and a highly successful Dance Showcase, our Senior Years Contemporary and Jazz dancers on Monday night received both State Award and a National Nomination for their Wakakirri Story-Dance, Barbie-Coded to Break.

The seven-minute production explored the invisible load carried by many modern mothers as they navigate the competing demands of career, family and societal expectations. Through dance, costuming and staging, the students examined the pressure of trying to ‘do it all’ while highlighting how systems and expectations have often failed to adapt to the realities faced by women today.

At its heart, the work reflected MLC School’s ‘She Can’ philosophy. Barbie-Coded to Break championed the belief that women are capable of anything and deserve a world that lifts, supports and shares the weight they carry. Through their performance, students advocated not only for themselves, but for others, using dance to spark conversation around an important contemporary issue.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment, creativity and teamwork shown by every student involved. To receive both State recognition and a National Nomination is a wonderful achievement and a fitting way to finish a remarkable term for our Dance Program.
