Top 1% in the Australian Geography Competition
I am very proud to share that Emily Ng and Lucy Xiang have achieved an exceptional result in the 2026 Australian Geography Competition, placing them in the top 1% of Year 8 entrants across Australia.
The Australian Geography Competition is a nationally recognised academic competition sponsored by the University of Melbourne, University of NSW, Western Sydney University and the University of Western Australia. Over 47,000 secondary students nationwide competed in the competition from more than 700 schools across Australia. The competition challenges students to apply geographical knowledge and skills to real-world issues. Participants are tested on topics such as physical and human geography, environmental management, sustainability, mapping and spatial thinking, requiring them to analyse information, interpret data and think critically about the world around them.
Achieving a result in the top 1% of Australia for Year 8 is a significant accomplishment and highlights the students’ outstanding understanding of geographical concepts and their ability to apply this knowledge in complex contexts. I congratulate Emily and Lucy on this remarkable achievement and thank them for representing Santa Sabina College with such distinction.
