Book Week is coming – Week 6
Book Week is always one of the most exciting events on our school calendar and this year promises to be extra special! On Friday 28 August, we will celebrate the joy of reading, imagination and storytelling with a day full of literary fun.
Celebrate your favourite book characters!
Book Character Parade: Friday 28 August
Location: Playground
Students are invited to take part in our annual Book Character Parade at 9:00am by dressing up as a character from a book. This is a wonderful opportunity to share favourite stories and discover new ones through the characters we love.
When choosing a costume, we encourage students to think about the amazing characters they have met in books. Whether it’s Matilda, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Paddington Bear, Gangsta Granny, Pig the Pug, Percy Jackson, Wombat Stew characters, or another beloved literary figure, there are so many creative possibilities! We also ask that students avoid dressing as Marvel or DC superheroes and villains, due to the play they might inspire. Book Week is all about celebrating the stories found on our library shelves and the authors and illustrators who bring them to life.
Special Guests: Matt Ottley and Tina Wilson OAM
We are thrilled to welcome Matt Ottley, one of Australia’s most celebrated author-illustrators and composers. Matt has illustrated and created more than 40 books and has received numerous prestigious awards for his work. His unique approach combines storytelling, visual art and music to create rich and immersive experiences for audiences.
As part of this year’s CBCA theme, Book Week: Symphony of Stories, Matt will bring books to life through a captivating performance that blends illustrations, storytelling and live music, showing students how stories can be experienced in exciting new ways.
Joining Matt will be Tina Wilson OAM, an accomplished artist, author and illustrator. Tina was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2023 for her contribution to the arts. She is the founder of the prestigious Lester Prize portrait award, has worked as an illustrator and designer for many years, and is the creator of the delightful Monkey’s Great Adventures picture book series. Tina is also Co-Director of The Sound of Picture Books, an initiative that combines literature, art and music to inspire young readers.
