Backcountry skiing adventure
Gold DofE Adventurous Journey
Fourteen Year 11 students have successfully completed their qualifying Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Adventurous Journey, undertaking a challenging and rewarding backcountry skiing expedition through the remote alpine landscape of Kosciuszko National Park.
The journey involved five days in the field, supported by two days of travel, as students navigated the spectacular backcountry of the Munyang Valley. Along the way, they experienced the realities of expedition life, carrying equipment, travelling through alpine terrain and camping in winter conditions.
The expedition tested students physically and mentally, requiring resilience, adaptability and teamwork. Throughout the journey, the group consistently demonstrated determination and a willingness to support one another through challenging conditions. Their conduct and commitment were a credit to themselves, the College and the values of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
The Gold Adventurous Journey is designed to challenge participants to step outside their comfort zone, develop leadership skills and build confidence through shared experiences in the natural environment. Our students embraced these opportunities wholeheartedly and should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
We extend our sincere thanks to Venture Outdoors Inc. for their expertise, guidance and support in delivering this experience. We also acknowledge and thank Imogen Lewins, whose commitment and care helped make the expedition a successful and memorable one for all involved.
Congratulations to all 14 students on completing this significant milestone in their Gold DofE journey. Their tenacity, teamwork and spirit exemplify the very best of Santa Sabina College.
