Music at Gioia House (Curricular)
Gioia House Instrumental Showcase
At the end of Term 2, families were warmly welcomed onsite for the Gioia House Instrumental Learning Showcase, our bi‑annual celebration of developing musicianship. Students from Gioia House Strings, Mini Maestros and Mega Maestros presented works‑in‑progress that highlighted their growing technical control, ensemble awareness and musical confidence.
The afternoon also featured a selection of thoughtful and expressive solo performances, demonstrating the independence and maturity students have gained across the semester. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to seeing them shine once again in their final presentation at Fra Angelico in November.
Academic Assembly Performance – Gioia House Choir and Gioia House Strings
In Week 1, Gioia House Strings and Gioia House Choir were invited to perform at the Academic Assembly, showcasing repertoire refined throughout Semester 1. Their performances brought a sense of celebration and community to the event, and students represented Gioia House with poise, musicality and pride.
Looking ahead at Semester 2
Throughout Term 3 and 4, Gioia House choir will be preparing for their Fra Angelico performance. Their program includes Lakeside Lullaby by Jacob Narverud and I Found Something I Was Searching For by Pink Zebra, two contrasting works that allow students to explore blend, phrasing and expressive storytelling.
Year 5 and 6 students will also begin preparing musical items for their end‑of‑year Mass, offering a musical farewell to the year and a gift of gratitude to teachers and peers.
Gioia House Strings
Gioia House Strings are preparing to join Sinfonietta for their Breakfast Concert in Week 9 on Monday 14 September, an exciting opportunity for students to perform alongside older musicians and experience a broader ensemble environment.
They are also preparing for the Fra Angelico Festival in Term 4, where they will present The Old City by Karen Kyriacou and Festival Fanfare by Kathryn Griesinger, two works that challenge students to develop rhythmic precision, dynamic contrast and confident ensemble leadership.
Gioia House Mini Maestros
Mini Maestros are busily preparing their items for the Fra Angelico Festival.
- Year 5 will perform Beethoven’s Ninth and Jingle Bells, exploring classical themes and festive energy.
- Year 6 will present A Shaker Hymn, focusing on tone, blend and expressive simplicity.
Their rehearsals this term emphasise ensemble cohesion, confident playing and musical curiosity — all essential foundations for their upcoming performances.
