Religious Education in Del Monte

Celebrating our Dominican heritage

Last week, members of our school community came together to celebrate and reflect on the rich heritage of Dominican education through the Dominican Education Australia (DEA) Afternoon Tea and our annual Dom’s Day celebrations.

On Thursday afternoon, DEA members, parents, staff, students and community members gathered for a special afternoon tea. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared Dominican tradition, connect with one another and reflect on the values that continue to guide our school community.

Our students played a significant role in the gathering. Our Gioia House students confidently led the Acknowledgement of Country and opening prayer, setting a reflective and welcoming tone for the afternoon. Students from Del Monte delighted those present as they retold the story of St Dominic’s younger years using our Dominican dolls, bringing Dominic’s story to life in a creative and engaging way. Our Year 4 students also shared their understanding of what it means to be part of a Dominican school and spoke thoughtfully about how they will carry the Dominican pillars of Prayer, Study, Community and Service into their future learning and daily lives.

The celebrations continued on Friday with Dom’s Day, beginning with a reverent whole-school Mass. Students and staff gathered in prayer to honour St Dominic and give thanks for the Dominican charism that is at the heart of our school.

Following Mass, students participated in classroom activities that explored the life of St Dominic and deepened their understanding of Dominican values. Through discussion, reflection, creative tasks and collaborative learning experiences, students considered how they can continue to live these values in their relationships, their learning and their service to others. These celebrations were a wonderful reminder of the strong partnership that exists between our school, families and the wider Dominican community.

Year 4 Social and Justice Leaders’ Winter Appeal

The Year 4 Social and Justice leadership team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all parents for their generous donations to the Winter Appeal. Your contributions have made a significant impact, providing essential support such as food, clothing, household bills and specialist homelessness services to those in need.

Your kindness and generosity help us continue our mission of advocating for fairness, equality and support for the vulnerable in our community. Thank you for opening your hearts and making a difference!

To contemplate and to share with others the fruits of contemplation.
