Book Week 2026 in the Library
A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.

– Ernest Hemingway
These reflections capture the excitement, imagination and discovery that books bring into our lives. Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia recognises outstanding Australian literature through the Book of the Year Awards. The 2026 theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’, celebrates the many journeys that reading can inspire.
This year’s CBCA shortlist highlights an exciting range of Australian literature. The Older Readers selection includes contemporary young adult novels spanning fantasy, suspense, mystery and coming-of-age themes, while the Younger Readers category features adventurous, imaginative and deeply moving stories for middle-grade readers. Together, the shortlisted titles reflect the creativity and diversity of Australian children’s and young adult publishing.
Book Week will be celebrated in the library through a variety of engaging activities, including Shadow Judging, author trivia, teachers’ favourite books competition, writing workshops and our annual Book Week Character Costume Parade on Friday 28 August at lunch.
Students who would like to participate in the parade may dress as a favourite book character or author and bring a gold coin donation. Funds raised will support students in the Solomon Islands. All costumes must comply with appropriate Free Dress Day expectations, including suitable footwear for practical subjects.
Students who choose not to dress up are expected to wear their full school uniform.
Families are invited to attend the Parade on the Small Hockey Field from 1:00pm.
