Sporting Achievements
Athletics Track and Field
Turning to track and field; over the holidays was the Australian Athletics Junior Championships in Brisbane. We had a total of seven (Yes seven!!) of our MLC School Athletes compete, and they produced some astonishing results in in one of the most competitive fields a meet can bring. The results were as follows:
- Eve Ireland (Year 12) – 15th in 100m Hurdles, 6th in Shotput, 6th in Heptathlon
- Elysse Diep (Year 12) – 16th in 100m
- Ruth Costello (Year 10) – 11th in 3000m (SB)
- Olivia Kalamvoki (Year 9) – 12th in 3000m and 21st in 1500m
- Jemima Pun (Year 7) – 2nd in 800m
- Chloe Pun (Year 7) – 7th in 100m (PB), 10th in 200m (PB), 10th in Long Jump
- Edie White (Year7) – 17th in 80m Hurdles
These are all absolutely fantastic achievements all round, we are proud to have you all waving the MLC School Athletics flag. It’s pointing towards a seriously strong IGSA side for us this year, keep your eyes open for our IGSA trials coming up!
A final shoutout to Jemima Pun (Year 7), a medal in Australian Championships is one of the biggest achievements you can get, we are all so proud of this, and we can’t wait to see you compete at IGSA and CIS!

Football
This week the IGSA 18s Football Trials were held at Macquarie University, with more than 100 nominations and 60 trialists representing IGSA schools across Sydney.
MLC School was proudly represented by three students:
- Cass Fernando (Year 11)
- Georgie Coxsedge (Year 10)
- Felicity McCormick (Year 8)
The trials featured an exceptionally talented group of players, including members of the U17 Asian Cup squad. All three MLC school students progressed through to the final Possibles vs Probable’s match of 22 players – an outstanding achievement at such a highly competitive level.
Congratulations to Felicity McCormick (Year 8), who was selected in the final IGSA team. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to her hard work and talent. She will compete at NSW CIS championships next month,
Well done to all three students on their excellent performances.
Swimming and Diving
The swimmers and divers had a fantastic day at the NSWCIS Championships this week at SOPAC. All competitors achieved top 10 finishes in their respective events.
The MLC/IGSA Dive team consisted of:
- Ada Savage (Year 10) MLC School Dive Captain
- Clementine Lonergan (Year 9)
- Eloise Dastyari (Year 7)
- Daisy Han (Year 7)
- Imogen Halkon (Year 7)
All students performed exceptionally well. It was wonderful to see such strong performances in a highly competitive environment. Ada, Clementine, and Daisy have also earned selection and will progress to the NSW All Schools Swimming and Diving Championships later this year.
We had three swimmers in the IGSA team:
- Madison Chantler (Year 11)
- Iris Ji (Year 10)
- Rachael (Pip) McGuire (Year 10)
Congratulations to Madison Chantler (Year 11) and Iris Ji (Year 10), who have qualified for the NSW All Schools Swimming Championships.
Basketball
In the world of hoops, we have yet more success. Big shoutout to Enid Boyd (Year 11) for U19 and Balbay Boyd (Year 7) for Y16 who both competed at the CIS Basketball championships. They both went well, and did MLC School Proud, a huge congratulations to both of you.
An extra congratulations is in order for Balbay (Year 7), who went one step further and made the U16 CIS Basketball Squad, and will compete at NSW All Schools! This is so exciting, good luck Balbay!
Fencing
Congratulations to Elena Sun (Year 12), Fencing Captain, who recently competed in the Australian National Open Age Women’s Épée category. In a strong and highly competitive field, Elena achieved outstanding success, taking out the gold medal.
The fencing season continues to build momentum as we approach upcoming competitions. Our MLC School team will compete this month in the U19 Épée League, featuring:
- Orianna Ellis (Year 11)
- Yerina Kang (Year 11)
- Madeleine Girgis (Year 10)
- Claudia Pruscino (Year 8)
We wish all of our fencers the very best of luck as they represent MLC School in the upcoming events.
Netball
Last week, four students represented MLC School at the IGSA Rep Netball Trials held at Brigidine College, St Ives, where they competed against over 50 girls in each age division.
Olivia Burke (Year 9) and Samaara Menon (Year 9) both trialled in the U15s Category and showcased their skills tremendously. Anisha Sivagurunathan (Year 12), School Captain, and Cate Campbell (Year 11), Netball Captain, trialled in the U19s Category, where they fought hard to gain their position into the possible’s and probable’s round. Excitingly, Anisha was selected in the IGSA U19 Netball Team to compete this week at the NSWCIS Netball Championships held at Netball Central, Homebush.
Congratulations to all our girls and we wish Anisha the best of luck on her journey through the Netball School Pathway.
Volleyball
Congratulations to Nikhita Kumar in Year 10, who recently trialled for the NSW CIS U15 Volleyball team. We are excited to announce that she has been selected for the squad competing at the NSW All Schools Volleyball Championships this month. Well done, Nikhita, on this outstanding achievement.
