Mother’s Day

Wishing everyone a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday. Of course, Mother’s Day can mean different things to each of us. It may be a time of joy, gratitude, reflection or remembrance. Whether you are a mother, a grandmother, a caregiver, a mentor, or someone who offers love and support in quiet and powerful ways, today we acknowledge you.

I acknowledge those who are with us, those we remember, and those for whom today may be complex or bittersweet. Thank you for the kindness, strength and compassion you bring to the lives of others every day and I wish everyone a day of appreciation, connection and care.

I am looking forward to seeing the MLC School community on Sunday at the Mother’s Day Classic. If you cannot make it but you would like to make a donation to our team, you can do so here.

Professional Learning Teams

On Wednesday afternoon this week, our Senior School teachers were hard at work establishing their plans for Professional Learning. Melissa McMahon, Head of Learning and Teaching and Amy Murphy, Director of Professional Practice have been doing a huge amount of work to make this happen and our teachers are certainly inspired to unpack our ‘Puzzle of Practice / Strategy /Research’.

I am lucky enough to have joined a team to develop further research into the benefits of Girls’ Education. With MLC School being a leader in this space, both historically 140 years ago, and still today with our Principal, Lisa Moloney chairing the board of the Independent Girls’ School Association (IGSA) we are certainly well placed to lean into this challenge and enhance our practice.

In our first session, as we started to compiled and discuss readings, we read from the Sydney Morning Herald from 2023 ‘The decision to send my daughters to an all-girls school came down to one reason’ which you can read here. This article evoked great discussions within our group about the power of girls’ schools to provide a place for our girls to step up, take up space and develop their own agency. Thank you to Melissa McMahon, Head of Learning and Teaching, and Candace Robertson, Head of Languages, for leading our team and facilitating some great learning.
