Year 9
It has been a busy and positive week for our Year 9 students, and I’m pleased to share a few highlights that have allowed them to step away from academics and assessments and enjoy the broader life of the school.
Last Friday, it was wonderful to come together for our 140 Year Birthday Celebrations. The assembly was a fantastic occasion and a meaningful way to acknowledge our School’s history and community spirit. One of the highlights was a fashion parade showcasing previous versions of our School uniforms – thank you to the brave Year 9 students who volunteered to take part and brought the parade to life.
On Wednesday, we held our first Year 7 – Year 9 Meeting, led by our Middle Years leaders together with Sophie Winnall, (Year 12) School Vice Captain (Year 6 to Year 9) SRC and Service. They created a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, including a fun ‘guess the Middle Years leader’ activity using baby photos. The meeting also featured a Q&A panel where Year 7 and Year 8 students could ask questions and learn more about the Cadet Program and Urban Challenge camp. It was a fantastic opportunity for our student leaders to strengthen their presentation skills and build confidence speaking in front of a crowd.
Year 9 students also enjoyed a special presentation from Rosemary Mula, grandmother of Victoria Lacchia-Schmidt in Year 9, who spoke to the year group about the Commonwealth Games. Rosemary shared her experience volunteering with teams from Kiribati, Tonga, Malta, the British Virgin Islands and Australia, and reflected on the joy that comes from volunteering and being part of a team. She also offered an inspiring message about following your passion and holding onto your dreams, even when obstacles arise.
