What’s happening in Year 5

Barometer

Year 5 has turned into a team of meteorologists this week as students continue exploring weather and how scientists observe changes in the atmosphere. As part of their learning, students took on the exciting challenge of building their very own barometers, simple tools that measure air pressure and help predict shifts in the weather. Students are tracking and recording their barometer readings daily over the fortnight. Next science lesson, they’ll compare and analyse their results to see how air pressure changed over time and what those changes might mean for the weather.

Year 5 Outdoor Education Experience

The Year 5 girls had a wonderful time at their Outdoor Education Experience at Tallong from Wednesday 19  Friday 21 August, embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and courage. From tackling the low ropes to climbing the high ladder, they pushed themselves and discovered new strengths. Their bushwalk led to an exciting surprise when they found a hidden cave tucked away in the landscape. The sit and service activity gave them a chance to care for the environment by pulling out weeds and a quiet moment to reflect, while mountain biking brought plenty of speed, laughter, and fun.

Cheffrey’s incredible food kept everyone fuelled and happy, becoming a highlight all on its own. Evenings were filled with fun cabin moments, where new friendships blossomed and old ones grew stronger. The egg drop challenge brought creativity and teamwork to life, with lots of creativity, plenty of cheers and just a few dramatic splats. There were opportunities for growth everywhere; stepping outside comfort zones, trying new things and cheering each other on. Some sleep was had, though excitement often won out, and many girls are already looking forward to returning next year.
