Game design challenge top ten

Last term, Mia, Annabelle, Gabriella and Harriet from Year 5 entered into Arludo’s Game Design Challenge. Out of over 400 applicants, they were shortlisted to the top 30 and then top 10 across Australia. On 10 October, we were invited to the Arludo Gala Awards evening at the University of New South Wales to celebrate all of the shortlisted schools. Before the evening began, we were involved in a fun, science-filled day. We went on a tour to the Quantum Computer Labs where we witnessed scientists at work in the construction of the first Quantum Computer. We were then taken on a tour through the Museum of Human Diseases and finally engaged in a Q&A with Arludo’s online game design developers and programmers.

The girls were involved in creating digital content for their online game with professional film crew, which was then viewed by the audience at the Awards evening. Guests included representatives of companies such as Microsoft and Questacon as well as professors and scientists from UNSW. On numerous occasions throughout the night, our girls held themselves with pride as they attempted to convince the guests to vote for their game.

While they did not ‘win’, the Santa Sabina community is proud of them for taking a great leap in their learning and confidently shaking the world, one step at a time.
