What’s happening in Year 5

This term, our Year 5 students have been diving into the fascinating world of climate and weather. As part of their Science Lab lessons, they have designed and built their own barometer to measure air pressure and a homemade anemometer to track wind speed.

To put their creations to the test, students conducted a daily wind speed experiment. Each day, they measured the wind speed using their anemometers and compared their results with online wind statistics showing real‑time wind speed and direction. This helped them understand how weather data is collected, why measurements can vary, and how scientists use multiple tools to build accurate forecasts.

The students have loved seeing their homemade instruments in action and discovering that science becomes even more exciting when you can hold it in your hands.

Coding and Robotics

The Gioia House girls have been actively coding, creating and problem solving as part of the Coding and Robotics co‑curricular program. Using LEGO SPIKE, the girls have been designing and constructing their own imaginative builds before programming them to move and respond to commands.
