Year 11

This week, Year 11 students had the opportunity to hear from Old Girl, Georgie Roediger (2024), who is currently studying Medicine at the University of Manchester in the UK. Georgie shared valuable insights from her own experiences, speaking openly about the challenges many students face as they adjust to the increased workload and academic demands of Year 11. Her message was reassuring and encouraging, reminding Year 11 that it is completely normal to feel challenged at times and that perseverance, combined with seeking support from teachers, can make a significant difference.

Georgie also spoke about the opportunities that can come from stepping outside your comfort zone, including studying overseas. She encouraged them to trust themselves, embrace new experiences, and remain open to opportunities that broaden their horizons, whether that be through their experiences at school or beyond MLC School. We are always grateful when Old Girls return to share their journeys with our year group. Their stories provide inspiration and excitement about the many possibilities that await Year 11 after life at MLC School.

On Thursday, the Year 7 Little Sisters hosted a special Luminary session for Year 11, wishing them good luck for their upcoming examination block and providing some welcome light relief before assessments begin. The Year 11 girls got to engage in a variety of activities from card games, slime making and bracelet making.

Next week, Year 11 students will commence their Yearly Examinations. Please ensure your daughter has carefully read through all exam instructions provided last week. We encourage students to allow extra time each morning so they can arrive at school feeling calm, organised, and confident.

In my many conversations with Year 11 over the past weeks, I have continually reinforced the idea that examinations provide an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed so far. While it is natural to feel nervous, maintaining balance and perspective is important. This is a time to refine exam techniques, trust in the preparation that has been completed, and focus on doing their personal best. I wish all Year 11 students the very best for their examinations. Lastly, congratulations to all the Year 11 students who competed at Wakakirri and Niamh Johnson who competed at the Australian Interschools Ski Championship this week at Perisher!
