From the Head of Junior School
Science Week
This week, the Junior School celebrated Science Week with the ‘Seeds of Science’ House Challenge during the Kindergarten to Year 5 assembly. The girls loved creating their own ‘helicopter seeds’ and taking part in an inter-House flying competition. Our thanks go to our dedicated STEM teachers, Bede Schofield and Marie Cassar, for creating such an engaging learning experience.
Science Week was also a wonderful opportunity to nurture the girls’ curiosity, creativity and confidence in science. Engaging girls in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – from an early age helps build problem-solving skills and opens doors to future study and career opportunities. We are proud to see our students embracing these challenges with enthusiasm and look forward to cheering on our RoboCup teams next week.
Book Week
Book Week is next week! We will celebrate Book Week alongside Booralee’s Great Book Swap on the Junior School Campus.
All Junior School students, from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6, will participate in our annual Book Parade. This year’s theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’. Details of all the exciting Book Week events can be found in Library News.
Our Book Parade will be held on Friday 28 August, commencing at 9.30 am on the Sports Field.
Before the Book Parade, our Junior School Deputy Head of Curriculum, Sonia Weston, will present a workshop about how reading is taught, assessed and supported at MLC School. The workshop will cover:
- How reading data is gathered – the assessment tools and observations we use to monitor progress
- How this information is used – the way it informs teaching decisions and supports for your daughter in the classroom
- How you can support reading at home – practical strategies that align with what we do at school
The session will be informal in format, with time for questions and discussion.
The workshop will be held from 8.30am to 9.15am on Friday 28 August, before the Book Parade, in the Daphne Line Hall (Level 3, Junior School campus).
Please note: This Parent Workshop replaces the Kindergarten Parent Workshop planned for Tuesday 25 August 2026, which, due to circumstances beyond our control, cannot proceed. My apologies. I strongly encourage you to attend this session prior to our Book Week parade.
Father’s Day Breakfast and Paper Planes Challenge – Save the date
A reminder to add our Father’s Day Breakfast to your diary. It will be held on Friday 4 September 2026 from 7.15am, followed by the Junior School Paper Planes Challenge from 8.30am, for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6, along with their Father’s Day guests.
