MLC School is delighted to present its first High Potential Learning Showcase, celebrating the creativity, curiosity and achievements of students from Junior School and Senior School. The event will feature a diverse selection of student work and provide the community with an opportunity to see how learners have extended their thinking, pursued their interests and embraced challenge through High Potential Learning initiatives across the School.
Introducing Lucy James
Our Learning Enhancement teacher, Lucy James, grew up in Perth with a strong musical upbringing. She commenced harp studies aged 6 and by 17 was appointed Principal Harp for the Australian Youth Orchestra – a position she retained throughout her university years whilst working professionally with orchestras and ensembles nation-wide.
Lucy’s tertiary qualifications include a Bachelor of Music Performance degree, Graduate Diploma in Music and Italian Education and she is two units away from completing the Master of Special and Inclusive Education through uNSW. Prior to coming to MLC School in 2024, she spent 15 years teaching at primary and secondary schools in Italy, London, Melbourne and Sydney, where she had the opportunity to move to Learning Enrichment and realised this was her calling as a teacher.
Lucy’s interests include teaching literacy to dyslexic students as well as the application of the Universal Design for Learning approach to teaching literacy in a mainstream classroom setting, where all students can benefit from multiple pathways to engage with and access content, as well as demonstrate their knowledge. She has a passion for helping students with disability find individualised strategies that support them with their learning and preparing students for post-school life.
On weekends, Lucy loves exploring Sydney with her husband and daughters in search of good food and new dog parks for their golden retriever, Molly.
