Chaplains Corner

 

This week in Chapel and Devotional services, we reflected on Jesus’ parable of the lamp, and the reminder that light is never meant to be hidden. Just as we light the School candle at the beginning of our services, we are reminded that each member of our community carries a light within them: a light of courage, compassion, respect, growth, kindness and hope.

 

For our students, especially our Year 12 girls, this light is shining brightly in this important season of their school journey. Whether through study, leadership, friendship, service or simply showing up each day with resilience, they continue to remind us that strength is not only found in achievement, but also in character.

 

That same spirit was joyfully on display in the much-anticipated netball game between staff of MLC School and our Year 12 students. With plenty of laughter, determined defending, enthusiastic cheering and just the right amount of friendly competition, the game became a wonderful celebration of community. It was not simply about the final score, but about teamwork, encouragement, good humour and the shared joy of being together.

 

The staff team brought experience, strategy and a few surprise moments of athletic brilliance, while the Year 12 team brought speed, energy and confident teamwork. Around the court, the support from spectators added to the fun, reminding us that friendly competition can build connection, strengthen relationships and create memories that will be treasured long after the whistle has blown.

 

In many ways, the game reflected the message of our Chapel reflection: when we let our light shine, others are encouraged to shine too. We saw light in the courage to take the court, in the compassion shown through encouragement, in the respect between players, and in the growth that comes when we step into something with openness and joy.

 

Thank you to everyone who helped make the game such a joyful occasion, and especially to our Year 12 students for the spirit, leadership and light they continue to share with our School. May we all continue to shine strong: on the court, in the classroom, in our friendships and in the wider world.
