Tri-Service Leadership Summit 2026: Leadership in Action

Tri-Service Leadership Summit 2026: Leadership in Action

Last weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Tri-Service Leadership Summit for 2026 in Canberra. The summit consists of 10 Army Cadets, 10 Navy Cadets, and 10 Air Force Cadets, selected from across Australia to participate in leadership activities and bring their ideas to the table.

Throughout the Summit, I was able to listen to talks on Military Ethics, Operational Leadership and its realised impact on others in the field, tips for moving into a career in the ADF, and an insightful speech by Dr Felix Ho, the 2026 Northern Territory Australian of the Year. These talks included Lieutenant General (Three-Stars) Natasha Fox, the Chief of Personnel, as well as Brigadier Craig Shortt, who is highly decorated and has completed time in the Special Forces Units in the Middle East. Major General Michelle Campbell was also involved in the discussions which followed talks, and I was able to speak to her on a few occasions about her experience in the army and advice.

Something that stuck with me throughout this summit was leading through character. Throughout the activities, such as obstacle courses, discussions, and tours, I was able to see the impact of leading through character. Every dignitary there was not aloof and unapproachable, but rather open and welcome to questions, to help guide and nurture the future leaders I was able to work and grow alongside. This experience has absolutely taught me the value in leading well as well as the impact it has upon those you lead.
