Year 9 Commerce had a magnificent experience running a business. Two businesses, DYO-C and Lips N Lashes are included here:

DYO-Cupcakes

Our team, DYO-C (Design Your Own – Cupcakes), came to the decision to sell cupcakes at Mary MacKillop Catholic College, hence the company name. We decided to sell the cupcakes for $4.00 each, with the choice of icing (strawberry, chocolate or vanilla) and toppings, (Oreos, M&Ms or sprinkles). Our team learned the challenges and tasks of running a business and the hard work necessary for the company to succeed, for example, communication between the team, customer management, leadership and more.

Our business was successful as we sold all our cupcakes and our knowledge of running a business expanded. Everyone enjoyed their time and learned the basic steps in starting a business, hopeful assisting them in the future.

Lips N Lashes

Our team, Lips N Lashes, sold a beauty pack which included fake lashes, lip glosses, spoolies, eyelash curlers, lollipops and sweet heart lollies. We made 67 packs and we sold each pack for $10. We decided to sell in front of the Chapel as it gave us an advantage being the first business the students saw.

This was a very successful business venture as we sold out all packs in under 5 minutes when we were given 40 minutes to sell and we raised $300 for charity.
