STEM – Out of this World

In a place far, far away, students from the STEM team and Year 10 Design and Technology have been working towards entries for the Universal Robotics Challenge 2022. Through the hard work and persistence of STEM teachers and students, Mary MacKillop Catholic College was fortunate to receive a government grant for Artec robots, as a result we were able to enter the world wide robotics challenge organised by EduTech Australia.

Students were given access to robotics kits and resources that enabled them to explore problem solving using coding and innovative robot design. The brief was to develop a robot that improved road safety – a topic that all students were keen to explore and involve themselves in, creating an innovative robotic solution. The students made a valiant attempt, in the short time they had, to produce a life saving robotic mechanism that would compete with entries from Japan, Portugal, New Zealand and other countries around the world.

Results will be published late October and we look forward to liaising with the teams from overseas. It seems that the world has no limits for our STEM students.
