Year 3 to Year 6 Dancers Create a ‘Buzz’ at Wakakirri 2026

On Wednesday 5 August, 80 enthusiastic Year 3 to Year 6 Co-curricular dancers proudly represented MLC School at the Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival at the NIDA Parade Theatre, performing their original story-dance, Buzz Off!

 

Inspired by Wakakirri’s 2026 national theme, Guardians of Us, the performance celebrated one of nature’s smallest yet most important protectors, the bee. Through an engaging combination of dance, drama and theatrical elements, Buzz Off! explored the impact of human development on the natural world and highlighted the essential role bees play in sustaining ecosystems and protecting our planet.

 

The story encouraged audiences to reflect on how even small actions can have lasting environmental consequences, while also reminding us that through awareness, care and responsibility, we can all contribute to restoring balance and protecting the world around us. 

 

 

 

 

We are incredibly proud of our dancers, whose enthusiasm, teamwork and professionalism shone both on and off the stage. They represented MLC School beautifully throughout the entire event.

 

A special thank you to Ms Jess Dyson, Miss Afamia, Miss Claudia, Miss Ivy, Miss Kira and Miss Jorja, whose creativity, expertise and countless hours of preparation brought Buzz Off! to life. Their passion and dedication created an unforgettable opportunity for our students.

 

The excitement does not end there. State Award results will be announced on Thursday 27 August 2026, when schools will discover which performances have progressed to the Wakakirri State Awards Night. Successful teams will have the opportunity to perform again and be considered for a National Story-Dance Award. At the Awards Night, the Wakakirri Ambassador will announce the schools nominated for these prestigious national honours.
