From the Acting Head of Senior School
It has been another full and vibrant week in the Senior School, with students embracing a wide range of opportunities to learn, connect and grow. This week saw Year 6 students enjoy their Excitement Day as they explored opportunities in the Senior School. They made impressive catapults, spoke at least three languages, filtered water in various ways and reflected on some of the challenges that moving into the Senior School may bring. Year 7 spent Thursday at Sydney Zoo; Year 8 students participated in their Immersion Program in Mudgee and here in Sydney, while Year 12 students continued their Trial Examinations, settling into the routine of study and examinations with focus and positivity. Students also took part in a range of enriching learning experiences, including the Year 9 PASS Ski Camp, Commerce Excursion and the Year 11 Biology Excursion, before selected Year 10 students concluded the week through Service Learning at St Lucas’ Gardens. These opportunities allow students to connect their learning to real-world contexts, develop new perspectives, and engage with the wider community.
In keeping with our belief that every lesson counts, beyond the learning itself these experiences play an important role in supporting student wellbeing. Time spent learning in new environments, working alongside different people and contributing to the wider community helps students to develop confidence and perspective. Opportunities such as excursions, immersion programs, and service learning encourage students to step outside their usual routines, which can often lead to strengthening relationships and discovering new interests. It’s important to remind students that learning extends far beyond the classroom, and that there are many other ways such as these to develop a sense of connection and engagement in school life.
