Year 7

Year 7

Another week has flown by, and we are already approaching the halfway point of the term. This week, our Year 7 students took part in a Peer Support session led by Year 10 students during Luminary. The session focused on Growth and explored ways to prepare for the transition to Year 8.

The students also completed a self-paced digital skills session organised by Marianna Carlino, Director of eLearning. This session explored how to maintain a healthy balance when spending time online.

During our Year meeting this week, I reminded students of the importance of being upstanders rather than bystanders. We discussed speaking up when others make inappropriate comments and recognising when something feels wrong or makes us uncomfortable. We also made time for some fun with our traditional Halloween quiz. Moments of fun and connection are an important part of the Year 7 experience!

I would also like to acknowledge all the students who participate in activities, clubs and sports beyond the classroom. From early morning training sessions to competitions and other commitments, these opportunities involve dedication and teamwork. Well done to everyone for embracing the many opportunities that high school offers. School life is about so much more than lessons and marks!

Finally, our Year 7 students will take part in an important workshop next Thursday. Please see below for further information.

Elephant Ed Workshop | Thursday 5 November 2026

Next Thursday, Year 7 students will take part in an interactive workshop facilitated by Elephant Ed, exploring topics relevant to this stage of adolescence. The session will support students to think about identity, body image, choices and changes, and respectful relationships, including an introduction to consent, healthy communication and navigating relationships respectfully.

Elephant Ed workshops are evidence-based, curriculum-aligned and designed to create a safe and engaging space for age-appropriate conversations. We recognise that some of these topics may prompt questions or reflections for students, and MLC School staff will be available during and after the workshop should any student wish to seek further support.
