Year 11 Museum Exhibition
At the start of Term 2, the Year 11 Modern History classes visited the historic Hyde Park Barracks, as well as the Museum of Sydney: Unearthed exhibition. This experience allowed us to immerse ourselves in Sydney’s history, as well as understand the complexities of curating and constructing historical exhibitions. The excursion provided our group with the inspiration for our own museum exhibit project, and we began brainstorming. After choosing our hero/villain, Chiang Kai Shek, we created a moodboard and gathered our research from relevant primary and secondary sources. From there, we embarked on the riveting journey of finding relevant images, quotes and historian perspectives, and formatting the display. The weekend before the exhibition, we headed to Officeworks to print our materials. After spending an hour printing our lifesize Chiang Kai Shek cutout, we spent the rest of the quickly dwindling day assembling the display, with the help of some suave beats. Before we knew it, we were ready to pack up our display for the exhibition the next day. Despite some thumb tack issues (Chiang’s head ended up halfway down his torso), our display ended up being an immense success. Thank you to our Modern History teachers for organising such an enjoyable and memorable experience! Anne, Niki and Chloe
