Student Representative Council Report – William S & Myra S

SRC continue to work on Fort Fest, updates include

  • Token preorders commenced
  • Multi-cultural day organising underway, featuring cultural dress, stalls with food etc
  • Increasing advocacy and 2027 SRC Elections, forms being submitted

 

Secretary’s Report and Previous Minutes – Malcolm Groves

Our secretary veteran Malcolm has kindly acted in the relieving role again before new secretary takes over. Malcolm confirmed apologies, no conflicts of interest, and the acceptance of previous minutes.

Principal’s Report Highlights – Juliette McMurray

  • Principal expressed gratitude to relieving Principal Josh O’Neill.
  • Term 3 commenced with a staff development day focused on Professional Learning surrounding AI in Education
  • Debating & Athletics Achievements – in Athletics, Xavier A in Year 10 qualified for nationals
  • Public Education Awards held at Town Hall. Fort Street students played important roles contributing to the day with a year 12 receiving a Minister’s award
  • Upcoming events include Treasure Island production and Multicultural Day
  • Proposal to establish a centralized school blazer pool approved

 

Treasurer’s Report – Prabhu Sivabalan:

  • Strong financial position: Uniform Shop, IMP, P&C and Term Deposits all showing healthy balances
  • Financial controls are strong with multi-signatory Westpac banking requirements in place

Instrumental Music Program (IMP) Report – Tania Koit and Matthew Manchester:

  • Sponsorship efforts continuing for the 2027 tour
  • Program remains strong with growing student participation
  • Recent concert successful despite reduced fundraising due to weather and ticketing issues
  • Discussions were held around managing venue capacity, including ticket limits per family, off-site venues, or splitting events by year
  • 2025 equipment grant confirmed
  • 2026 equipment grant approved

 

General Business:

  • Secretary Election – Malcolm Groves

The committee formally acknowledges the resignation of Secretary Lucy Liang and thanks her for her 12 months of services.

Election held and Belinda elected as P & C secretary.

  • Fort Fest – Elizabeth Kenyon

Presales going well, hoodie merchandise introduced. Additional  funds requested for working expenditure approved.

  • Environmental Education NSW Awards – Elizabeth Kenyon

Proposal to nominate Ms Maddox for the Environmental Education NSW Awards, recognising her commitment to sustainability education.

She has made significant contribution and successfully inspired and involved students who previously had little interest in environmental issues.

The P&C formally endorsed her nomination, recognising her outstanding leadership and contribution to the school’s environmental programs.

  • P&C and IMP events calendar – Elizabeth Kenyon

P&C executive to collate all major 2026 out-of-hours event dates by the October meeting to execute the required Department Community Use Agreement.

  • P&C Insurance & Zoom Renewal – Malcolm Groves

Discussion on renewal of Annual P & C Federation membership and public liability insurance. Discussion on Annual Zoom subscription renewal. Jens to research non-profit rates for Zoom.

  • Uniform Shop Staffing and T4 Fittings – Emma Pearce

Gladys will remain in the role for another year to support succession planning and train a replacement.

Uniform fitting appointments will be reduced from 4 to 3 students per timeslot to manage volunteer shortages.

Recruitment of uniform shop coordinators and volunteers will be expanded across the broader school community.

Stella Liang will prepare a role description and estimated hours, which Kirrily will circulate to the community.

  • School Security and Student Belongings – Sivvy Xu

Reported incidents of missing student belongings have improved this term, with issues being followed up promptly.

Staff are encouraging students to bring bags into classrooms where practical.

Ongoing student education focuses on protecting valuables, noting that many reported thefts are later found to be misplaced items.

The school continues to promote student responsibility and awareness as the primary strategy to prevent loss of belongings.

  • Year 12 Graduation – Vivian Wang

A request was raised for up to $1,500 ($10/student) in matching subsidy funding for Year 12 Graduation event refreshments and photo backdrops, filling the gap after parent fundraising

  • Acknowledgement of Teacher Activities / Achievements

Miss Shi for her dedication to the Year 11 Mathematics – noting her efforts in supporting students for exam prep. Mr Sherwin acknowledged for his supportive attitude, students feel safe and comfortable around him

  • SRC continue to work on Fort Fest, updates include token sales, volunteer rosters, staging banners etc.
  • SRC Election concluded, with high participation in year 8.
  • R U OK Day in collaboration with Ms Dunn.
  • Coordination meeting confirmed with Ms Chakraborty and the Fort Fest committee

Principal’s Report Highlights – Juliette McMurray

  • Multicultural Day: Successful assembly celebrating diversity, featuring national flag bearers and community food stalls.
  • Drama Production: Treasure Island was staged and received very positive feedback.
  • Careers Expo: Ms Salisbury hosted a well-attended careers expo for Years 11 and 12, with strong participation from universities and tertiary institutions.
  • Commerce Stalls: Year 10 Commerce students successfully ran market stalls during recess and lunch.
  • Wear It Purple Day: Guest speaker, the Hon. Michael Kirby, delivered an engaging presentation on inclusion and diversity.
  • HSC Showcase: Year 12 major works were showcased through English Extension 2, Visual Arts and Music, with expectations of HSC showcase nominations.
  • Sporting Achievement: The Open Boys Ultimate Frisbee team won the 2026 NSW State Championship, marking the school’s first title. A signed Frisbee has been added to the trophy cabinet

  • Recent Performances:
  • Choir for Life: Participated in a charity concert supporting mental health in partnership with Alex Pringle’s community choirs.
  • Concert Band: Collaborated with Glebe Public School through a workshop and joint performance.
  • Chamber Choir: Performed at White Bay Power Station as part of the Dreamweaver community choir concert, receiving strong external acclaim.
  • Fort Fest: Rehearsals and scheduling are progressing well ahead of next Friday’s performances.

 

  • Grants Update: The 2025 grant reconciliation has been finalised

 

General Business:

  • Fort Fest – Elizabeth Kenyon

Event Date: Friday, 18 September 2026

Pre-Orders & Fundraising:

    • High number of token and raffle pre-orders.
    • Donation week successful (chocolate coin toss, books, games).

Operations:

    • Committee to pack stall kits and merchandise.
    • Coordination with school staff.
    • Monitoring weather for contingency planning.

Alumni Engagement:

    • Communications sent to past five years of graduates.
    • Positive feedback on event merchandise (logo by Ms Catalan).

Volunteers & Stalls:

    • 100+ volunteer sign-ups; more slots open.
    • Online ticket sales extended to Thursday before event.
    • Attractions include bubble soccer (weather permitting).

 

  • Uniform Shop Pricing – Emma Pearce

Price Adjustments:

    • Most items up by $1, select items by $2, blazer up $5 (now $205).
    • Essential items and blazers remain subsidised; blazer loan scheme continues.

Urgency: Pricing to be finalised for incoming Year 7 2027 cohort.

Motion: Price list approved (moved by Emma Pearce, seconded by Caroline Aow).

 

  • Year 7 2027 WhatsApp and WeChat Groups (Elizabeth Kenyon)

Community Groups: Informal WeChat group active.

Official WhatsApp Group: To be set up and moderated by P&C.

Caretakers: Sivvy and Angie volunteered as moderators.

Action: Malcolm to create group and coordinate distribution of join link.

Ms Finsterer: Recognised for dedication to Year 11 English classes.

Year 12 Graduation Funding:

    • School covers staging, banners, decorations, photographer.
    • P&C’s $1,500 allocation redirected to catering.

    • Caroline Aow stepping down as President; invites interest for handover.
