Maxwell L Fuller Chess Tournament
Fort Street High School sent a team of keen chess players to the annual Maxwell L Fuller Chess Tournament at Canterbury High School on Thursday the 3rd September. Our school was proudly represented by Parthiv P (10), Walter Z (9), Benjamin T (9), Hayden T (9), Yifei H (8), David B (7) and James S (7). Each played several games against very skilled competition from over twelve other schools in the Sydney area.
Our team was short three players (due to late withdrawals), but persevered through the competition to achieve an astonishing third place out of all the schools in attendance. There were many individual game wins throughout the day and students supported their team mates with strategy and analysis discussion during the tournament. Fort Street High School students once again produced excellent results, out of the one hundred and four players in the tournament we achieved: 1st place player (Yifei H), 3rd place player (Parthiv P) and 4th place player (Benjamin T) with all team members placing in the top twenty.
It was wonderful to watch the team sharing their chess expertise and serving as positive role models for younger students. With another year ahead to further develop our chess abilities, we look forward to returning next year to this event, aiming to secure the tournament shield for first place
