Tournament of Minds – Secondary School

Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a creative problem-solving program for teams of students from both primary and secondary years. The aim of Tournament of Minds is to enhance the potential of young people by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment.

On Sunday, 30 September four teams from SCEGGS competed in the Secondary Division at UNSW. Their presentations were a culmination of six weeks of positive teamwork, creativity and ingenuity.  This year, the Social Sciences teams explored economic and ethical concerns of fast fashion through the scenario of a charity fundraiser selling limited edition t-shirts. The Arts teams creatively designed an escape route for Marilyn Monroe and Vivaldi respectively from an Escher-inspired artwork in a way that provided an inspirational message for future artists.

Well done to everyone involved in TOM this year. All SCEGGS entries in the Sydney North Regional Competition were of a very high standard, with special congratulations going to the following teams on gaining awards:

• SCEGGS Team Red gained Honours in the Social Science Challenge, Secondary Division.
• SCEGGS Team Green gained First Place in the Arts Challenge, Secondary Division.

SCEGGS Team Green will now go on to compete in the NSW State Finals. We wish them all the very best. Thank you to the SCEGGS staff who acted as Team Facilitators, supporting the four teams that entered in this year’s tournament.
