From the Leader of Learning and Curriculum
As we move through Week 3 of Term 4, there is a real sense of purpose across the College. While our Year 12 students are completing their final HSC examinations, our newest Year 12 cohort has already commenced their Stage 6 journey, and students in Years 7-10 are preparing for a busy assessment period as the year draws to a close.
HSC Examinations
Our Year 12 students are now well into the HSC examination period, with only a week remaining. Major examinations, including English, Mathematics and Studies of Religion, have now been completed and marking is underway.
As students enter the final stages of their HSC, I encourage them to remain focused and committed right through to their last examination. Every exam presents an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and hard work.
On behalf of the College community, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their support throughout this important period. We wish our Year 12 students every success in their remaining examinations and look forward to celebrating with them at the year 12 formal once this significant chapter concludes.
Year 11 Begin Their HSC Journey
Following the completion of the Preliminary Course, our Year 11 students have now formally transitioned into the HSC Course and become our Year 12 cohort for 2027.
Students have recently received their Preliminary Examination results and feedback. These provide a valuable opportunity to reflect on their strengths, identify areas for improvement and establish goals for the year ahead. As students move into Year 12, it is important that they consider which study habits were effective and whether adjustments may be needed to maximise their success in Stage 6.
Our recent Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences also provided an important opportunity for families and teachers to discuss progress and identify strategies to support continued growth. I encourage students to revisit the goals and recommendations from these conversations and begin putting them into action.
Families may wish to use this transition point as an opportunity to discuss routines, study expectations and priorities for the year ahead. Applications for changes to patterns of study are now open, and students considering a change are encouraged to have open and informed discussions with their parents and carers before making any final decisions.
As students begin the HSC Course, I also encourage them to make regular use of the Elevate Education Study Skills website, which provides excellent resources on study habits,
organisation, motivation and examination preparation. Students can access the site at https://mscw.elevateeducation.com using the following details:
Username: mscw
Password: wisdom
Developing effective study habits now will place students in a strong position as they commence their HSC.
Years 7-10
For students in Years 7-10, the end of the year is approaching quickly and with it comes a busy assessment period. At this time of year, maintaining balance is important. While assessment preparation should be a priority, students should also ensure they are maintaining healthy routines, including regular exercise, adequate sleep and time to recharge. These factors play a significant role in both academic performance and overall wellbeing.
Families can support students by helping them establish consistent study routines and encouraging them to make effective use of their College Planner to manage upcoming assessment tasks and commitments. For students balancing school with part-time employment, it may also be worth considering whether temporary adjustments to work commitments are appropriate during particularly busy periods.
The coming weeks provide students with an opportunity to finish the year strongly and to see the rewards of a year of consistent effort, engagement and growth in their learning.
As always, I would like to thank our staff and families for the ongoing support they provide to our students. It has been wonderful to see the commitment and resilience demonstrated across all year groups, and I encourage students to continue applying themselves as we work towards the conclusion of another successful school year.
