Carolyn Prebble – Celebrating 29 years at King’s School, Auckland

On behalf of the New Zealand Chapter Executive Committee and all New Zealand Chapter members, both past and present, it is a privilege to congratulate Carolyn Prebble on the closing of a tremendous tenure at King’s School.

Carolyn’s commitment and significant contribution at King’s School cannot be summarised easily but she has quietly shared with me the headline which is … ‘29 years, 4 Headmasters, and many millions of dollars raised for the school.

Carolyn was one of the founding committee members of ADAPE New Zealand Chapter and has played a critical role in the organisation of the two New Zealand-hosted International Conferences in 2006 and 2018, plus numerous Chapter Conferences over the years.

Carolyn was the recipient of the Trevor Wigney Award in 2014 – the most prestigious recognition awarded by Educate Plus. A true testament and acknowledgement of Carolyn’s significant and selfless contribution to Educate Plus and the entire sector. Even though she is retiring from her role at King’s School, Carolyn will continue to be involved with Educate Plus in providing guidance for our members and looking after our ever-growing membership in New Zealand.

What an outstanding achievement and legacy Carolyn has left behind! During Carolyn’s time at King’s School, she has generously shared her knowledge and experience with so many of us new and maturing practitioners. I remember my first Educate Plus Conference (ADAPE as it was back then) in Auckland in 2006, like so many new members to Educate Plus, she made me feel so incredibly welcomed and I immediately felt part of the ‘family’. Thank you Carolyn for supporting our committees and our members through your phone calls, emails and supportive and encouraging conversations. I congratulate you on the conclusion of a stellar chapter and for leading the way here in New Zealand in the world of Advancement. Thank you for all that you have done to support us all while you have been at King’s School, Auckland.

President, New Zealand Chapter

Kirstyn Mawdsley is now Kirstyn Sandall

We would like to congratulate Kirstyn, our Chapter Treasurer, and Director of Marketing & Development at John McGlashan College, who had a birthday celebration a few months ago which turned out to be a surprise wedding – an intimate ceremony with close friends and family. Kirstyn is now Kirstyn Sandall.

Welcome to our New Zealand Chapter Manager – Kate Eatts

The New Zealand Chapter Committee is delighted to announce the appointment of Kate Eatts as our Chapter Manager. Originally from Australia, Kate currently works part-time as the Development Administrator at Diocesan School for Girls in Auckland. In her role as the New Zealand Chapter Manager for Educate Plus, she will be providing assistance to the Chapter Committee.

Auckland Members Celebrate Return to Level 4

It was more good luck than good management that saw more than 20 members from all over the Auckland region gather at Diocesan School for Girls on the first morning of Auckland’s return to Level 4 on Thursday 8th October, for a delicious breakfast, natter and chatter over coffee. After eight long months and lots of zoom gatherings, all present felt very grateful to finally be able to see their Educate Plus friends and colleagues again.

The morning was kindly hosted by Angela Coe and the team at DIO and included a particularly insightful and practical presentation by the DIO team who shared their ‘applied projects and practices’ all initiated as a result of the Educate Plus training they’ve enjoyed over the past several months.

We learned about their Charidy-based Annual Appeal (for Covid-affected students); DIO’s newly-established and rapidly-growing LinkedIn group; the functional, value-add online tools, YouTour and NoticeMatch; and DIO’s revised donor stewardship practices adopted during the first lockdown with a focus more on communication and contact than ‘donor moves management’.

The special morning was capped off by a tour of the incredible, recently opened, Dio Arts Centre. We suspect that performing artists throughout Auckland will be clambering to get onto the stage and into the practice studios and concert chambers featured in this superb addition to the Dio campus.

Our heartfelt thanks to Team DIO – Angela, Kate, Aly and Dennis for their considered preparation and generous hospitality. We all had a great morning!
