COLLEGE MUSICAL – BACK TO THE 8Os

Drama and Dance students are to be congratulated on representing St Patricks at the Combined Schools’ Musical, Back to the 80s at the Townsville Civic Theatre. The 21 students involved worked for months with peers to pull together a very entertaining show. A special mention also goes to Mr Michael Pope who operated one of the follow spots (lights) for the duration of the run.

Our own school production will be announced in Term 3. We know that our students will be thrilled with the College’s selection and the Drama, Music and Dance teachers can’t wait to see the student response!

BASKETBALL – NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGERS

Year 10 student, Riley Triffett-Driessen has been the latest in a line of St Patrick’s College Townsville students asked to sing the National Anthem at the Townsville Basketball. A gifted singer, Riley’s performance was excellent. Congratulations, Riley!

SCHOOL OFFICERS DAY

We are very proud of the College and the reason things run so well is, in large part, because of the team of School Officers who work behind the scenes to support all of our students and staff. We had an opportunity to thank them recently with cards and chocolates. It was a very small gesture of thanks for all the amazing things they do to help everyone at St Patrick’s College Townsville succeed.

IN THE NEWS

Thank you to the Townsville Bulletin for some wonderful local coverage. Mercy Girls In Action, Meg Burbidge’s cupcake business and the College’s Excellence Awardee nominations have all recently featured in the paper and it’s great to see these good news stories shared with the wider community.

and on that note….

MERCY GIRLS IN ACTION

Mercy Girls In Action had a very busy term two. We began the term with our first ever Eat Up session in week two, where we made sandwiches for disadvantaged children around Townsville. Physically seeing the difference we were making as we prepared the sandwiches was a great bonding experience and was very motivating for us. We hosted another session in week six, which was equally as successful. We have now made well over 1000 cheese sandwiches! In week seven, Mercy Girls In Action held our Fashion Friday event, where students donated their old clothes and we resold them. This both reduced the fast fashion waste of the school and helped us fundraise for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. We raised over $650, and the girls were able to get involved with selling, sorting and advertising the clothes. Overall, we have had a very productive term, and we can’t wait to continue this onto semester two.

LEADERSHIP DINNER

Head of Year 12, Ms Hambly, accompanied five of our College Leaders to the Tweddell Leadership Dinner, this year hosted by Townsville Grammar School. The night was a wonderful opportunity for the students to talk to other school leaders about the challenges associated with leadership as well as the opportunities they have to be agents of change in the world. It was a wonderful event for all involved. Thank you to Lara Stewart, Harper Weekers, Anna Baxter, Sarah Mosch and Piper James for their participation in the event.
