Year 11 Legal Studies Incursion

Our Year 11 Legal Studies students recently had the opportunity to spend the morning with Inspector Robertson and Senior Constable Duncan from the NSW Police Public Order and Riot Squad, gaining valuable insight into the role of policing within the legal system and its response to a range of criminal offences.

During the session, Inspector Robertson and Senior Constable Duncan explored key aspects of their work, including their responsibilities as police officers, the use of force in carrying out their duties, and the challenges of balancing the rights to freedom of speech and protest with the need to maintain public safety and community order. They also discussed the prevalence of organised crime networks, the role of social media in facilitating recruitment and criminal activity, and the impact of mental health issues on contemporary policing.

Through the sharing of real-life experiences and case studies, students were able to deepen their understanding of the legal concepts studied in the classroom and make meaningful connections between theory and practice.

This informative incursion has provided our Year 11 Legal Studies students with a strong foundation as they look forward to commencing the HSC Core Topic on Crime.
