Year 9 Visual Arts Artist Incursion
Year 9 Visual Arts students recently participated in a dynamic ceramics workshop led by multidisciplinary artist and ceramicist Christian Bonett. Drawing inspiration from contemporary ceramic artist Mechelle Bounpraseuth, students created hand-built sculptures of pigeons and ibis birds using a range of ceramic techniques, including slab building, coiling, and sculpting.
Throughout the workshop, students explored how contemporary artists transform familiar subjects into playful and thought-provoking artworks. Incorporating humour and elements of postmodern practice, students challenged traditional perceptions of these often-overlooked urban birds while developing their technical skills and creative confidence.
Once fired and glazed, the individual sculptures will be combined to form a collaborative installation artwork, celebrating both collective creativity and contemporary approaches to ceramics. We thank Christian for sharing his expertise and providing our students with an engaging and inspiring creative experience.
Year 9 Photography and Digital Media
Responding to a series of mock client briefs, students worked in teams to plan, style, and photograph advertising campaigns for a range of products, including skincare, beverages, coffee, and sustainable consumer goods. Through experimentation with lighting, composition, styling, and visual storytelling, students explored how photographers use creative decisions to communicate a brand’s identity and engage an audience.
