MSCW Winter Sleepout

More than 90 students participated in the MSCW Winter Sleepout on Friday, 3 June. The purpose of this overnight stay in Bon Repos was to provide a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ and to raise awareness and funds for the Vinnies Winter Appeal.

There were guest speakers, Jennifer Aduckiewicz and Cathy Langman, who worked as volunteers for Vinnies. They spoke about the services offered to residents living in public housing in Hunters Hill and how there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness in Australia.

Students participated in a range of activities facilitated by the Marists in Action (MIA) group. This included the Privilege Walk activity, which enabled them to reflect on their privilege in contrast to those experiencing hardships. Dinner was a cup of soup and a bread roll. There were several rounds of trivia and singing throughout the night.

The Winter Sleepout was an opportunity for students to connect and develop empathy for those who are disadvantaged in our society.

Thank you to the staff who supported and supervised the sleepout – Mrs Criss, Ms Shippen, Mr Iskander, Mr Leonard, Ms Khean, Ms Andrews, Mr Bray, Ms Dove, Mr Allen and Miss Kleist.
