From the College Counsellor

As the school term draws to a close, it is important for us to reflect on how hard many of the girls have worked during the term and the importance of enjoying a break from school work and to recharge during the school holidays. School holidays can also be a time to reconnect with family and friends, and I encourage the girls to do just that!

I cannot stress enough how important it is for the girls to find a balance between school work, study, extracurriculars and down time. Research shows that adolescent development thrives when sleep, playtime, downtime and family time are regularly in a teens schedule (Franz 2019 www.ascd.org).

As parents, we can support our young person during the term by helping them schedule their time to ensure that sleep, family time, study and down time can be regularly achieved. This can support girls to feel motivated and prevents feelings of burn out and fatigue.

If your daughter is needing mental health support over the holiday period, I have listed below some emergency contacts and supports:

Lifeline 13 11 14

Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800

Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636

Headspace 1800 650 890

I hope the holidays are relaxing and enjoyable and I look forward to the next term ahead.

If you wish to discuss the above or have any concerns about your young person please feel free to contact the College Counsellor, Monica Rogenmoser via monica.rogenmoser@syd.catholic.edu.au or ph: 0435 659 694 (during school hours)
