With peak drop-off and pick-up hours bringing traffic to Woolwich Road, street safety around the College is a daily priority. Because the vast majority of our students travel to and from by bus, staying vigilant on the roads surrounding the school protects our entire community.

With Road Rules Awareness Week taking place from September 21 to 27, we ask all parents, caregivers, and student drivers to take a moment for a quick refresher on road safety. Simple shifts in awareness reduce accidents and ensure everyone returns home safely each day.

Key Reminders for Drivers and Passengers

• Buses need extra braking distance: As large, heavy vehicles, buses cannot stop quickly. Avoid cutting closely in front of a bus or stopping suddenly in front of one.

• Give way to buses: Always yield to a bus signaling to merge back into traffic from a bus stop or curb.

• Slow down to 40 km/h when bus lights flash: Flashing lights mean children are actively boarding or stepping off. Students may unexpectedly run out from behind or in front of the bus, so reduce your speed immediately.

• Passenger safety on board: Students travelling on buses should hold onto handrails while moving through the aisle and remain fully seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.

• Pedestraians: All members of our community need to cross Woolwich Road at the traffic lights.
• Alighting from buses: All student must enter the College immedatiately on arrival.
