Book Week Winners

At the end of last term, an award ceremony was held in the IMC to recognise the Book Week competition winners. Students were given book vouchers and gift packs to acknowledge their wonderful efforts. It was great to see so many students take part in our Book Week activities this year and we look forward to celebrating again in 2023.

Year 9 – Mystery Cubes

During their Wide Reading lessons, Year 9 English classes had fun collaborating with their peers on the development of a mystery story. Students were able to apply knowledge gained from their study of the genre and include a variety of mystery text conventions. This helped them to not only establish their own story but also help develop the stories of their peers. The results were incredibly creative and there are some wonderful examples on display in the IMC.

Pens Against Poverty Writing Competition

Pens Against Poverty is a national writing competition which aims to raise awareness of social justice issues through creative writing. The theme of the competition this year was Finding a Home’ and students could enter a short story or poem. Judges of the competition include well known published authors and poets such as Jackie French, Ursula Dubosarsky and John Foulcher.

To coincide with their study of Inequality, Year 8 English students were encouraged to enter this competition. A writing workshop was provided in their wide reading lessons to encourage their creative expression on the topic.

Best wishes to the following students who entered:
