Senior Wakakirri Team Progress to Awards Night

We are thrilled to announce that our Senior Years Wakakirri team has been selected to perform at the Wakakirri NSW State Awards Night on Monday 14 September.

Following their powerful performance at the Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival, the students have been recognised for their outstanding storytelling, commitment, and stagecraft, earning the opportunity to return to the stage and celebrate alongside other outstanding schools from across the state.

Their original story-dance, Barbie-Coded to Break, explores the pressures placed upon young people by societal expectations and challenges audiences to consider the importance of individuality, authenticity and self-acceptance. Through a dynamic blend of dance, drama and theatrical storytelling, the students delivered a performance that was both thought-provoking and deeply engaging.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, creativity and teamwork demonstrated by the cast and crew throughout this journey. Their willingness to tackle complex themes, support one another and strive for excellence exemplifies the spirit of Wakakirri.

Before taking the stage again at the State Awards Night, audiences will have the opportunity to see Barbie-Coded to Break alongside our Junior Years Wakakirri performance, Buzz Off!, at the 2026 MLC School Dance Showcase, Forever Young, at the NIDA Parade Theatre on Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September.
