RoboCup Nationals
We took 11 talented students across four teams from our Junior and Senior Robotics teams to the RoboCup Nationals competition in Canberra, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented our school.
Across two intense days of competition, our students demonstrated incredible resilience, creativity, teamwork and growth. They supported one another, adapted to challenges and continued to improve with every performance. Their hard work paid off with some fantastic results:
MLC Impending Doom — 1st Place, Open OnStage
Ethelia Cassar (Year 10), Indi Hannah (Year 10), Emily Van Der Westhuizen (Year 10) and Bonnie Li (Year 9).
MLC Scrambled Eggs — 3rd Place, Open OnStage
Fedra Nikolakopoulos (Year 8), Victoria Cassar (Year 7) and Remy Pereira (Year 7) who represented MLC School at the competition.
And Charlie Fang (Year 8) who helped with preparations and performance creation.
MLC Bin Chickens — 2nd Place, Novice OnStage
Peita Nikolakopoulos (Year 6) and Henrietta Britton (Year 6) who represented MLC School at the competition.
And Zara Hunt (Year 6) who helped with preparations and performance creation.
MLC Snack Club — Intermediate Maze
Nicola Keast (Year 11), Sanaya Nair (Year 11) who represented MLC School at the competition.
And Caydence Sumantri (Year 10) who helped with preparations and planning.
We are incredibly proud of every student who competed. Their dedication, creativity, perseverance and willingness to learn throughout the competition made the weekend particularly rewarding. Most excitingly, placing 1st in Open OnStage qualifies the team for the RoboCup Junior International competition! As only one team from Australia represents Team Australia in each division, this is a significant achievement. The international competition will be held in Nuremberg in June 2027. The girls are thrilled to have qualified and already have many ideas for how they can further develop their entry for the international stage.
And one more very special congratulations to our STEM Co-curricular Coordinator, Marie Cassar, who was awarded the University of Canberra’s Outstanding Teacher Award at the event. This is a deserved recognition of all the time, effort, and expertise that Marie gives to her role as teacher and mentor to give our students ever-expanding opportunities and to provide inspiration as a woman working in STEM.
