From the Head of Junior School

Welcome back to Term 4, and a special welcome to the new families who have joined our MLC School community. I trust you received my Welcome to Term 4 email. Thank you for ensuring your daughter has returned looking her best in full summer uniform, including her School hat. As I welcomed the girls on the Junior School red carpet and at the Year 6 Centre, I was greeted with many smiles and a genuine delight at being back at school.

At our Kindergarten to Year 5 Assembly this week, our Junior School Captain introduced this term’s School value: Growth. We look forward to a strong term of growth across all areas of learning and school life.

Stay and Play

On the last day of Term 3, the Junior School campus was full of energy for our annual Stay and Play. This event, initiated by the Junior School Student Council (JSSC), raises funds to support student life in the Junior School. This year, we hope to put the funds towards a kiln for our art classes. Thank you to everyone who supported this enjoyable community event.

RoboCup Nationals Success

During the term break, the STEM department took 11 talented students from our Junior and Senior Robotics teams to the RoboCup Nationals competition in Canberra. The students demonstrated resilience, creativity, teamwork and growth at a national level.

Their hard work paid off with a fantastic result for our Year 6 team:

MLC “Bin Chickens” were awarded 2nd Place in the Novice OnStage category. The girls clearly have wonderfully creative team names!
Congratulations to Peita Nikolakopoulos and Henrietta Britton, who represented MLC School at the competition, and to Zara Hunt, who supported the preparations and performance creation.

Further congratulations to our two Senior School teams, who placed 1st and 3rd in the OnStage Open category.

A very special congratulations also to our STEM Co-curricular Coordinator, Marie Cassar, who received the University of Canberra’s Outstanding Teacher Award at the event. This is well-deserved recognition of the time, expertise and generous commitment Marie brings to her role as teacher and mentor, providing our students with ever-expanding opportunities and inspiration as a woman working in STEM.

Our thanks to Marie Cassar and Bede Schofield for their passion, commitment and generosity of personal time.

Finally, we wish our Year 12 girls the very best as they continue their HSC and IB examinations.
