Chaplains Corner
During the school holidays, I attended a four-day Uniting Church Fiji National Conference in Perth, a meaningful time of worship, connection and reflection. I returned grateful for the opportunity and encouraged as we begin the final Term of school together.
From Perth, my journey continued to Nadi for Pre-COP31, where more than 4,000 people from over 100 nations gathered to discuss the urgent impacts of climate change. Pacific voices called for courage, cooperation and faithful action to care for creation and pursue climate justice. Across these two very different gatherings, one message remained with me: hope grows when we recognise that we belong to one another and each take responsibility for the good of our shared world.
Wisdom for a New Term
At our first whole school Chapel this week, we reflected on Matthew 22:15–22. When challenged with a difficult question, Jesus responds calmly and wisely, pointing people back to what matters most—an important example as we begin a busy final term.
When Jesus asks whose image is on the coin, we are reminded that every person bears the image of God. Our worth is not measured by marks, awards, likes, or whether life goes to plan. We are known and loved by God, free to learn from mistakes and use our gifts with compassion.
As Daughters of the Light, students can let that light shine through curiosity, courage, encouragement, kindness and mercy. We do not have to shine perfectly; we simply keep turning towards the light and help others do the same.
My holiday experiences and the chapel reading offered the same reminder: hope and wisdom grow through everyday choices to listen deeply, act courageously, care for one another and protect God’s creation.
As Term 4 begins, may it be filled with joyful learning, wisdom, goodness and mercy. Remember: you do not walk alone. God goes before you, and you carry the light our school and our world need.
