Arigatou Yuna sensei お疲れ様でした！

This week we farewell Yuna Yamada who has been a Japanese assistant teacher for the past three weeks. Yuna sensei is from Osaka, Japan and is studying at Kwansei Gakuin University, with a major in Language teaching, to teach English, Japanese and French.

Our Year 12 Japanese class are especially grateful to Yuna Sensei and her presence has been a constant light in all of our classrooms. Always patient to teach us and ready with a smile, it’s been lovely to get to know her and practice our Japanese with her. Particularly leading up to the final Year 12 IB oral, having a Japanese assistant speaker to converse with was invaluable. All of the Year 12 IB class is endlessly grateful for Yuna Sensei’s help.

She’s also brought so much joy into class, allowing all students to ground their language learning in real conversation. After all, it’s one thing to learn grammar and vocabulary; it is another to bridge the gap between two cultures using that knowledge, even if it is limited or shaky. It’s in building that bridge that real language learning begins.

Upon asking her about her favourite memory at MLC School, Yuna Sensei mentioned conversing with students and getting to know everyone at the school was most enjoyable. While we’re sad to see her go, we wish her all the best with her future endeavours and university study!
