Gamuda Inspires Year 7 Designers

On 19 June, Year 7 students undertaking the Blueprint to Build project were visited by representatives from Gamuda, the company responsible for designing the new Five Dock Metro Station. As part of the project, students are designing a virtual retail, dining, work, or entertainment space within the future Five Dock Metro arcade using Google SketchUp. The visit provided students with a valuable real-world connection to their classroom learning, as they explored many of the same design considerations involved in their own projects.

The presenters included Alex Small (Architect), Matilda Leake (Architect), Tricia Low Yi Ching (Design Manager), and Olivia French (Communications Officer). They shared insights into the inspiration behind the Five Dock Metro development, what the completed site will look like, and the design process used to bring such a large-scale project to life.

Students learnt about the importance of collaboration, connection to Country, accessibility, and community consultation when designing public spaces. The presentation concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing students to ask for feedback regarding their own design ideas.
