Environment Committee Update 

Speaking 4 the Planet 

On 12 June, 14 members within our community joined together at MLC, Burwood, to compete in the annual ‘Speaking 4 The Planet’ competition, held by Burwood and Canada Bay Councils. Speaking 4 The Planet is a sustainability-focused competition that aims to raise awareness in students on environmental issues our world continues to be faced with, and allows for various new ideas to be explored through hearing from experts within the field. With entries in all categories, Domremy was Highly Commended for enthusiastic participation on the day, and all participants represented the College extremely well. Thank you to all who participated. The passion put into these projects is admirable, and was clearly reflected through the quality of work presented.

  • Recycled Art – Saskia (Yr 10), Aurelia (Yr 10)

  • Writing – Liana (Yr 10), Leana (Yr 10)

A special congratulations to the following students for their impeccable results on the day: 

  • Charlotte (Year 10) – 3rd in Public Speaking 
  • Sienna (Year 9) – Highly commended in Writing 
  • Liana – Highly commended in Writing
  • Seyara and Sarah – 3rd place in Visual Arts, Peoples Choice Award

Additionally, the attendance of Mayor John Faker, Ms Sally Sitou MP and Mr Jason Li MP highlighted the significance of Speaking for the Planet Burwood and reinforced the importance of student voice in addressing environmental issues, and how we can continue to be stewards of creation. 

PLC Sustainability Forum 

Following the Speaking for the Planet event at Burwood MLC, our students attended the Interschool Sustainability Forum at PLC Sydney on 16 June, where they connected with environmentally driven students from schools across Sydney. The forum highlighted the importance of raising awareness and reminded students that individual actions, as well as school-wide initiatives, can make a meaningful difference in creating a more sustainable future.
