From the REC: In our community … Sistine Chapel Experience

Domremy College students, together with our Principal, Mrs Antoinette McGahan and REC, Ms Caroline Morizzi, had the incredible opportunity to experience the Sistine Chapel Revelations Exhibition on the forecourt of St Mary’s Cathedral last week.

This immersive installation brought the beauty and detail of Michelangelo’s masterpiece to life through large-scale projections and narrated animations, allowing our students to encounter the art, faith and story of the Sistine Chapel in a powerful new way.

It was a wonderful chance for our young women to deepen their understanding of Catholic identity, connect with the richness of our tradition and reflect on the beauty of creation and faith expressed through art.

“Have you ever visited a place that completely changed the way you think about a subject? That was exactly my experience when visiting the Sistine Chapel Exhibition with Mrs McGahn, Ms Morizzi and other curious minds like mine. Recently, we toured the exhibition and it was an unforgettable experience. Before attending, I had heard about the famous artwork painted on the roof of the chapel, painted by Michelangelo, but seeing the detailed replica projected onto the walls and roof masterpiece to life in a way that photographs never could. The scale, vibrant colours, and intricate details were truly breathtaking, allowing me to appreciate the artistry and skill behind the work from a unique perspective. The voice over, especially, opened my eyes to a new viewpoint of the painting, like the diverse amount of stories told in each crevice of the artwork. Overall, this was such an entertaining and informative experience that enlightened us all about the Sistine Chapel as well as the spiritual depth behind it.” (Tiana)
