Konnichi-wa from Year 7 Japanese
Students in 7V, 7R, and 7T have just completed a semester of Japanese.
They learnt
- About Japanese culture, festivals and geography
- How to introduce themselves in Japanese
- About the Japanese writing system
- How to count from 1 to 10,000
- How to write some Japanese kanji
- How to say their birthday and age
- How to say where they live
- To appreciate another culture, its values and language
During their studies, students made oni masks, origami sumo wrestlers, played the Happy Face game, bingo and made Japanese folding doll cards. They also sang songs, did role plays and completed puzzles.
Japan has a very different culture and language, which is fun to explore especially as many of us are travelling there nowadays. Students also reflected on their own language and culture as they learnt the ways of the Land of the Rising Sun.
I can’t wait to explore more of what Japan has to offer with these students in Year 8!
