A Taste of Italy – Year 7

As 7A, 7E AND 7I finish their semester of their taste of another language – for these girls it was Italian – we reflect on what they learnt about the Italian culture and a bit of the language.

They learnt about: 

• Italian regions and their capital cities – Do you know the name of the region Florence is found in?
• some famous Italian landmarks and where they are found – Did you know that according to legend, throwing a coin over your left shoulder using your right hand ensures you’ll return to Rome one day?
• the similarity of Italian words to English – Do you know the meaning of the Italian word “parco”?
• the Italian alphabet and pronunciation – Did you know that “ch” in Italian is pronounced as “k”?
• the different ways to greet people in Italian – Did you know that you don’t use “ciao” to say hi to everyone?
• expressing how they are feeling in Italian 
• giving their age and birthday in Italian 
• saying where they live in Italian

AND to end the semester, students created their own “visions of Italy” in the form of a painting or mask. 

It was a pleasure to expose these lovely girls to the beauty of Italy and its language and I hope they have enjoyed these six months and will want to continue with Italian by choosing it for their language study in Year 8.
